Just sharing for the curious, I run a similar poll in Twitter, here're the results:
An update on this
Closing the poll now. Thank you all, what a great community this is.
For the sake of sharing, here are the results:
18% GoDaddy
43% Namecheap
23% Google Domains
0% Zoho Domains (Mail)
18% Other (please add in comments)
Few names that I didn't know and came up quite often:
Porkbun
And finally Cloudfare, that given cost and easiness is taking the market by storm.
I won't move forward with this project sadly, at least for now, way too many blockers and not sure of the value. It had value for me, that's for sure.
The idea was to create a simple view with all your domains, not matter the provider, be able to run basic actions on them (renew, buy, remove, set alerts) and search/buy new ones with a price comparison from different providers.
Anyways, the value increases proportionally with the number of providers integrated, and only GoDaddy and Zoho (0 votes) seem to have the endpoints I needed.
In case any of you are thinking about this too, here are the blockers I've found:
Not to be confused with Cloud Domains API, that's for something else, it doesn't query domains.google.com
Namecheap API does have a domain list endpoint but requires a ClientIP value, an IP address of the machine making the request, that needs to be previously whitelisted in their console. Since I was building the app with Bubble, and Bubble doesn't offer (as most apps and servers) an static URL, only dynamic IPs, the value will never match with the one whitelisted. I thought of creating a proxy somewhere... but just too many more blockers...
GoDaddy all good ✅
Porkbun does not have an endpoint to list Domains neither
Cloudfare's API does not have an endpoint to list Domains... or maybe it has, and they call it Zones...
... and so on and so forth. I've assumed that all of them will have a beautiful API wanting for me
Thank you all for the help, hopefully this thread will have some value for someone in this community
Hi team, need some help, as an indie, I buy domains compulsively, from multiple providers.
I'm now building a simple app to view them all in one place and need to prioritize APIs integrations.
Please share your preferred, main domain provider of your choice, and as a bonus, if you share how many domains you own (not easy for me actually, that's why i'm building this) that'll be awesome...
And Merry Xmas for you all, and enjoy your holidays for those of you that Xmas is not a thing.
I've used Go Daddy, Namecheap and NIC.cl (for .cl domains).
For hosting I've used AWS, Netlify and Heroku. Each has a use case: aws (full webapp), heroku (MVPs when they had a free plan), and netlify for static pages
Sav.com
Own more than 70 domains right now.
BTW, for all domains' management, I use Cloudflare. And for emails, I always use Google Workspace.
So that's why all the cool domain names are taken!
On the serious note, how many of those are used for a project that's live?
Five. Though, right now, ZeroAdo and my personal (VishnuGoyal.com) are two serious projects.

ANd out of about 70, I have paid heavy price for some premium domains as well in the aftermarket.
hahaha that's a new record
I have hundreds of domains and buy/sell frequently. For the past few years I've mostly used Uniregistry. I love their interface, the overall UX and the simple pricing.
Uniregistry was acquired by GoDaddy, so that's why I voted GoDaddy. I also like GoDaddy's domain auctions/search features.
I've been deep in the domain space and even built my own tool for checking domains and social usernames (it's not live any more). Uniregistry is the one to beat in terms of UX. Happy to help test and/or give feedback on your product/tool whenever it's available.
I used Namecheap previously. Now I use cloudflare
I think GoDaddy has pretty much conquered this space. All the comments seem to suggest as much at least.
I've used Dynadot recently -- found cheaper domains there than Google Domain (which is usually my go-to) if the pricing is the same
cloudflare
using Namecheap cuz they accept PayPal payments
I bought my domain through name.am
Sure it's local to us, but gave the best deal on .com domain. Better than those famous ones.
I used mostly namecheap, and one based in Nigeria whogohost. Apart from those 2, I haven't used any other
Cloudflare. Was using Namecheap before, but now only Cloudflare.
Tried most of these, landed of Namecheap. They spam you a bit with emails, but overall their service is reliable and support is great. Got around 10 domains there at the moment, not planning on leaving any time soon
Unfortunately can't vote but I own 4 domains so far and all of them from Google domains. I host my websites on Google Cloud so it's a matter of convenience for me as I am within the Google ecosystem
Mostly through Porkbun or Namecheap. I use Migadu for all my email needs, their plans are very generous.
Porkbun and Gandi.
I get mine thru AWS/Route53 as well - like having all my hosting and domain costs in one place, and AWS has done right by me so far.
Own or manage around 50-60 domains, and little by little the ones still on a different registrars (namecheap was my old choice), they get moved over as they approach renewal.
AWS domains tend to be 1-2 dollars more expensive per year, but for me, small price to pay for the convenience.
Hey would you be interested in joining a community for domain
addictspeople? I've got a small collection but obviously love my domain names and would love to show them off to like minded people.I'm trying to build a great place to discuss domains and trends and also facilitate sales between "collectors" (if we can call ourselves that!)
I am buying international domains through amazon route 53.
Google Domains for me, but there's plenty of other great ones.
I'd advise staying away from GoDaddy though, too many horror stories.
Porkbun and Namecheap
🚫 Namecheap, GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Edomains - very bad domain companies/services
Porkbun and namecheap
I started buying domains on Cloudflare since I usually end up running them through Cloudflare anyway. It simplifies the setup process and their prices are fine.
Seconded
I can't vote yet apparently. I currently own 12 domains, 6 from GoDaddy and 6 from Namecheap.
thanks a lot @TheRightFive, so just curious what do you use as email provider? once you decide to start working on one of those ideas
I host on Siteground and manage the e-mail accounts from Siteground.
I tweeted that question two days ago and I had a lot of answers.
The top 5 were:
I used to buy my domains on OVH, but after testing the other tools, I figured ou that it was crap.
In case you’d like to see all the answers, you can find it here: https://twitter.com/gabschemoul/status/1603408571353399299?s=46&t=BVKdZUMvPbUoHBmUwbkLDQ
Oh and I own around 15 domain names!
Wow thanks I’ll check it out and give you a follow:-)
My pleasure! 😁
