I'm creating a landing page to collect emails for a wait list of one of my ideas. I'm basically done with that and now I'm adding the finishing touches.
I was wondering how people on here get their privacy policies and terms and conditions. Do you generate them with something like Termly? Use a service like Iubenda? Get someone to draft them for you, copy them from somewhere or something else (like not even bothering 😄)?
I spent way too long on this for my own apps. Tried Termly, TermsFeed, iubenda — they all generate decent documents, but they're designed for websites, not mobile apps specifically. The mobile-specific sections (in-app purchases, push notifications, device identifiers, App Tracking Transparency) were always incomplete or missing.
Plus they generate the document but you still need to host it somewhere. And then you need a separate tool for your support page, another for your landing page, another for account deletion...
I ended up building applander[dot]io because I was frustrated with exactly this. It generates a privacy policy covering 30+ privacy laws with 100+ SDK-specific disclosures (Firebase, AdMob, RevenueCat, Stripe, etc.), generates terms of service with in-app purchase and subscription clauses, and hosts everything on one domain. Also gives you a landing page, support center, FAQ, and account deletion page.
Free for your first app if anyone wants to try it. But honestly, whatever you use — make sure your policy actually lists the specific SDKs you use. Apple and Google now check that your privacy policy matches your App Privacy Labels / Data Safety form. Generic policies that just say "we use third-party services" aren't enough anymore.
I used a large competitors as a foundation and tailored it for my own business.
I've assumed (maybe wrongly) that a large competitor will have had there's looked over by someone professional and therefore provide a good foundation.
Haha yeah maybe we are all just winging it and no one knows what they are doing 😆 I might try the same though
From our own experience we started first by generating them online and tailoring them a bit to our own needs. However, that's a short term solution just to keep things going at the beginning. In the future, when things start to grow, crafting fully customised privacy policy and terms and conditions by a specialist would be required.
What did you use to generate them? Termly or something else?
We used Termly, it was the best choice we know
Good question, I'm looking for an answer as well :)
Iubenda
I use Iubenda to create all those legal documents and install cookie blockers, etc.
I usually copy/paste from similar sites and simply replace company names + location
