Where does Pinterest get its vistors from?
I've been reading a lot about Pinterest marketing and how you can target a lot of industries through this platform. Pinterest, as they say, is a search engine - and not a social network.
But I am curious where Pinterest itself gets its users from.

I see Pinterest ranking a lot on many Google search queries. So are a lot of traffic referrals from Google?

I can see how Pinterest is a go-to platform for some niches. Like, if you want home decor ideas, you can go directly to Pinterest and gets lot of good ideas. But there are also several non-sticky topics where Pinterest is apparently a good platform.
Anybody who has a good understanding of the medium explain this to me?
Pinterest are freakin experts at Google Image Search SEO. They use machine learning to identify the image (even if their visitors don't), write the ALT tags and title tags for each image, then use image based sitemaps to serve that juicy goodness to Google. Their boards are also SEO gold where they combine similar pins into individual boards then have a landing page for each one of those.
Long story short. Google is the source of the majority of Pinterest traffic.
Thank you. That's what I guessed too. But here is the thing - so I know this guy who is a super affiliate advertising like $5K a day on social networks like Pinterest and Facebook. I have seen his ads and where they get placed. I have tried all possible keyword combinations on Google that should possibly show the ad, but I don't find any Pinterest listings for any of those keywords.
For example, let's say the guy is selling cat food. I have searched several keyword combinations for 'cat food' and I don't find any Pinterest listings. That makes me wonder where does he spend so many thousands of dollars on if those pages don't get a lot of Google traffic.
I don't know, but Pinterest can be good source of traffic. We've put some images there and we're getting 20k impressions/monthly on these images, it's crazy.
what's the click-through rate?
Very low, we got like 150~200 clicks from that

Thanks. Yeah, those are all keywords I might personally go to Pinterest for.
