As a side project, I started restoring a Nissan March K12 (a small, Beetle-like car) just for fun.
I ended up using the Notes app to keep track of the restoration progress. Over time, I noticed something interesting work wasn’t just about tasks. It also involved tracking a lot of “things” I needed to acquire: parts, tools, Engine, ATF Oil and random bits that didn’t really fit into a traditional todo list.
That’s when the idea started forming: most work isn’t just tasks. It’s a combination of tasks + things. That simple realization became the inspiration for a more general tool a todo system that also helps you track physical or conceptual “things” alongside your work.
I built the first version in SwiftUI and got it running on mobile. At that point, I didn’t even think about publishing it. It was very raw just two sections on a single screen: Tasks and Things. No workspaces, no complex structure just a simple reflection of how I personally worked.
Later on, as the idea tend to evolve had a thought on making it more generic like a Todo/project management tool but for everyone. Started improving the product bit by bit, Initially added the work space. It’s no longer just two sections, but grouped by a workspace. Once it reached certain stability level I’ve published the initial version.
Didn’t stopped from there, went on a slow pace with consistency, since there were lots of things going on in parallel,
Then suddenly ideas comes popping, foremost idea for sticker showed up, there after the widgets, then Ask Siri feature, Shortcuts and so on.
Recently implmeneted a feature called AI Braindump powered by Apple Intelligence, you just give an idea and WorkIt can create a tasks and things. Now it truly feels like a good product that can go on a long run
