Where to get started with a budding writer

Hi there, I have a family member that is interested in blogging for my freelance developer site that I'm starting up. He has a strong interest in writing but has not blogged before, doesn't know anything about SEO, etc. Where is a good starting point?

What is a good blog, course, book, anything that would be a good starting point? Something that won't be information overload and could ease them in gently.
