Where to validate startup ideas?

I frequently write to my subscribers at Micro SaaS Ideas around these.

Here are my pointers:

• Build your waitlists signups with landing page first
• Submit the product to places like BetaList, ProductHunt(Ship)
• Leverage places like IH, Reddit, FB groups etc to talk about your product, share landing page
• If you have some social presence, use Twitter, LinkedIn etc
• Keep sharing the journey updates everywhere - whether you lose or win - share the learning and this will help build the traction
• Also, see to join any closed community of builders
• Once you have a decent size of waitlist like 70-080 people, talk to them 1-1 and see the vibe. Not bad to ask for upfront payment. read 'The Mom Test' on how to talk to users.
• Propose LTDs if LTDs fit the model
• Then build MVP and proceed.

2. Join communities based on your niche and targetted market. Use Facebook groups, Reddit, indiehackers, Linkedin, twitter, and slack channels.

Shameless plug, but if you decide to go with a waitlist, feel free to check out getwaitlist.com (building this atm). Beyond that - when I've launched products in the past, I basically did this:

1. Build a SUPER simple landing page with a waitlist
2. Put your website out on Indie Hackers, Reddit, Betalist, etc. Wherever you can
3. See if people sign up and try talking to them
4. If you have increased friction, build a simple MVP, otherwise scratch it
5. When you launch your MVP do step 2 again -- building in public helps :)

And then you keep repeating the cycle -- talking to customers is the most important part imo

Validation is a myth.

The entire process is a waste of time. There’s only one thing you need to do to build a product that is guaranteed to be successful and it’s very simple. Wrote a post about it this morning:

You can set up your product or landing page in a way that will help you validate as you build. I can help you come up with some good questions to ask users. I would need to understand what you are trying to validate and what stage you are at. what is your twitter handle?

I have three key steps:

1. Landing page to get signups -- do not skip this step.
2. Speak to people that have signed up -- if they don't respond, then you probably don't have something interesting for them.
3. Build the solutions to the core problems your users in (2) are facing.
4. If you end up with nothing to built at (3), then repeat.
