Where would you host a course about data science?

I would 100% recommend putting it on your own site, even just something basic you can spin up quickly using Webflow and Gumroad.

No platform that I am aware of lets you own your audience - i.e. collect your students' email addresses so that you can market to them again, and unless you're charging thousands of dollars per seat, I think building a really specifically targeted audience is some of the key value that you create by publishing a course like this.

I published a specialist course on remote user research analysis on Udemy and got some traction, had good ratings and made about 70 sales. But when it came time to start my media company and kick off distributing my own content via that entity, I had to start over with collecting emails and audience data, which is a critical piece of my distribution strategy.

So yeah, platforms make it easier to get started, and provide some vetting and feedback, which is good. But I think much more valuable is quickly spinning up your own site, putting a product page up on Gumroad, and getting some feedback from peers in your industry, rather than using a platform, jumping through hoops for them in terms of formatting when they won't understand your audience, and turning your audience data over to them.
