I just realized today that I can't build sales and marketing for a bad product, but everyone tells me to "start selling early," which I unfortunately accept but am not very happy with the results.
So, if there is a clearly positive internal feeling about the product, then sales will come much easier.
But maybe I'm wrong. What do you think?
Hey, Dmitry,
I think you're right, building anticipation for your product will help ramp up sales once the product is live.
But I think it's essential to test your product's utility before actually getting to work on it. Otherwise, you'll risk building a good product that people don't need. Engage with your audience and ask them if they would buy/use the product you're thinking about building.
Once you get positive feedback, you can keep them posted on your progress, nurture their enthusiasm, and prime them for buying the product well in advance.
Thank you very much, Adelina. I agree that asking for and testing products is the right approach, but what if the product is not that simple to build in a short time? For instance, since it took more than two years for Figma to build the beta version, I'm not quite sure they could get positive feedback if they asked around about how good it is, just because it was pretty tough to explain without the working prototype. Needless to say, it won't be possible to sell at this early stage.
