I'm looking to pick up a new side project this year and have burned through a good amount of ideas already, the two that remain are
A platform that helps people with similar interests find each other and pursue those interests together (sort of like facebook groups but as its own platform)
A platform that unifies all the services that go into a typical "jamstack" site to give you a quick overview over all of them at once (sort of like segment)
The first one is fairly hard to monetize and meetup already kind of fills that position, though, they are more focused on professional meetups from what I can tell. It should be fairly easy to get going with some targeted ads and I can make an easy "remote only" mvp during the quarantine.
The second one is pretty easy to monetize and has greater potential in that regard (since it's b2b) but is also competing with established names like segment, it's harder to get an mvp off the ground and I don't really know anything about growing b2b companies.
Are there any additional things I should consider for both ideas? What do you think of the ideas so far?
Second one sounds cool! HMU if you want to partner up.
What problems do each of those ideas solve?
Who has those problems?
Have you talked to 10 people with those problems?
I like the second one much better as a business. I'd like to add that you can find more ways to be original and the market is HUGE, so even though there are strong competitors, you can still have success. Regarding the MVP, just start with a small feature. Don't make it the whole package at once, otherwise you'll get discouraged and feel like you'll never finish it.
Best of luck!
