Which KPIs do you always track for each project you have?

I'm super curious what are the KPIs which you always track at the start of any project you have.

    only 2:

    1. customer interviews
    2. revenue

i focus on #1 until i can adequately sequence #2. then, i optimize the fuck out of #2. that means, i iterate and experiment on price.

    rinse, repeat.

when we're in revenue stage, we're also building software, so a 2-week gitflow process works for us just fine.

This seems wise, especially compared to focusing on a variety of metrics. @8bit do you have any thoughts or process on customer interviews? (Or is the answer to that obvious?)

there's only one process that i use... and it's borrowed very heavily from @robfitz and his book, The Mom Test!

in fact, i do a weekly bookclub: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/the-mom-test-weekly-bookclub-578c841d8d

Very cool. Thanks for the recommendation (and very cool that Rob is here)!

    Hi Toby,
    I find KPIs a bit soul-crushing, I usually do OKRs (small/big difference)
And also, most metrics are secondary/indirect monitors of performance.
I try to find an empathetic metric to understand the value I'm giving my users, for instance, in a music app I built, I looked at the histogram of minutes played, # of times users returned per week. What I really wanted to know is if my users were enjoying the software. Then I reached out to my "top" customers and did some digging to find out why they're my "best" users.
I really love this model as a thought process to understand what matters in your business: https://coda.io/@rahulvohra/superhuman-product-market-fit-engine
