Which One Do You Use For Your Product - Google Analytics or a No Cookie GDPR Compliant Analytics Service?
Guys, I want to know your thoughts on this. For now, I am using Google Analytics on my website that naturally uses cookies. For that, I am using a cookie pop plugin for the GDPR.
I've also come across other analytics tools like Simple Analytics, Fathom Analytics, Hotjar etc. these are GDPR compliant, claim to have no cookies, are simple to use and provide some other features like heatmap, user click recordings & stuff. Have you tried any of these? If yes, what is your experience with them?
What tool are you using on your product for analytics?
There are a lot of misunderstandings here, that I want to mention:
Google Analytics is GDPR compliant, if you anonymize IPs, mention them in your privacy policy, and allow people to opt out.
GDPR is not about tracking with cookies! Fathom, and other services still send data to a third party server, which by technical nature establishes a connection with an IP Address. IP Addresses are personal data as per GDPR, so you still send personal data to a third party, which requires you to ask for consent (unless your service has another category of GDPR consent), and you would need to mention it in your privacy policy if you wan't to do everything by the book.
That's right @beberlei I have anonymized the IP, so can't really trace the location of the visitor. I've also turned off the Remarketing & the Advertising reporting features of GA.
If we are not collecting any personally identifiable information of the user without his consent then I think we should be ok.
First of all, I'm biased answering your question, as I'm building my own analytics software (cookieless and GDPR compliant of course). I'm rolling out a beta version soon and would love to have you as a beta tester. :)
However, if you want to get rid of your cookie banner now, the best thing you can get is probably fathom. It's both easy to set up and easy to use.
