I would say the Indie Hacker Hall of Fame, people most everyone know about, would be:

    Pieter Levels (https://twitter.com/levelsio)

    Danny Postma (https://twitter.com/DannyPostma)

    • sold Headlime
    • Building Profile Picture AI
    • HeadShotPro

    Arvid Kahl (https://twitter.com/arvidkahl)

    Jon Yongfook (twitter.com/yongfook)

    Tony Dinh (https://twitter.com/tdinh_me)

    Tibo (https://twitter.com/tibo_maker)

This article has a lot of other great people to learn from as well

wondering about Arvid Kahl's courses. Does he have experience building startups than Feedback Panda? I'm just learning about these guys as I write this comment, basically.

Hey there, glad to meet you!

I've been building bootstrapped SaaS businesses since 2013, VERY unsuccessfully when I started, and much more successfully later. Since the exit of my most successful one, I've been building a media business around the idea that all advice is anecdotal and promising success is effectively lying. I'm allergic to snake oil โ€” which makes giving ANY advice a challenging act.

I wrote my books from the perspective of a dev founder who spent a lot of time grinding through failing projects and then eventually found the right idea with the right partner at the right time. And now I celebrate anyone who tries and try to share with them useful experiences from my own path. I do a lot of mentoring and spend WAY too much time responding to my Twitter founder friends' questions ;)

Most of my work is free on the Bootstrapped Founder blog and in my Twitter feed. Would love to see you there!

A media business avoiding advice? How does that business model work?

Is it going to be like some of those services (I forget their names) that serve objective, unbiased news, or is it something else entirely?

          1. 3

Not avoiding advice, but avoiding promising guaranteed success. The "Get to $20k MRR in three months!!" kind of stuff. I still share advice, but always contextualize it in my experience.

It makes "sales" much harder, but I just can't handle dishonest marketing.

        2. 1

But will also love to see you here :D

The IH community is what made me jump into SERIOUS indie hacking. I didn't know of this community until just before I started FBP, and I would argue now that learning from Courtland and his podcast guests as well as the people contributing to IH was the reason I actually succeeded in the first place.

    2. 2

Danny has two a's in his Twitter handle :) https://twitter.com/DannyPostmaa *

      1. 2

You are right. https://twitter.com/dannypostmaa Fixed it. Thanks.

    3. 1

Those are some serious numbers. We all can build but it's hard getting the word out for little or no money.

    4. 1

Nice list. I'm wondering, is FeedbackPanda dead/gone? https://www.feedbackpanda.com/ ... or there is another domain?

      1. 1

Checked the buyers portfolio page, they don't list it.

        https://www.sureswiftcapital.com/portfolio/

        @arvidkahl do you know?

          1. 2

That was painful to see, even as they had good reasons to shut down the business. There was a whole cascade of government decisions in China that destroyed their customer base, and they didnโ€™t pivot to anything else.

Whatโ€™s really sad is that I couldnโ€™t snatch that domain after it expired.

  2. 12

The best ones to follow are the ones just a few steps ahead of you.

  3. 9

In my opinion, it's not a good idea to constantly watch and follow them as it can have negative effects on yourself. Here's why:

    1. You unknowingly set high goals for yourself and your startup.
    2. Constantly checking their tweets, especially when they showcase their Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), easily distracts and demotivates you.
    3. You will become paralyzed by simply looking at their tweets. You may think that you are gaining a lot of knowledge by following them and learning something new every day. However, the truth is that you will end up spending more time on Twitter and becoming overwhelmed with unnecessary information that is not essential for successfully launching and running your startup.
      and much more..
Just my 2 cents - DON'T FOLLOW INDIEHACKER SCENE ON TWITTER
My personal experience taught me to stop following others and instead fully dedicate my time to my startup. This is because everyone is different and works in their own unique style.
Whenever I need to learn something, I visit Twitter or Indie Hackers (IH) to find solutions for specific problems. This approach helps clear my mind and allows me to better focus on my own tasks. Most importantly, it prevents me from having false hopes of achieving significant MRR within just one month of launching.
    1. 2

I think these are solid points, and Iโ€™ve definitely found it helpful to focus on my own journey. Thanks for sharing and best of luck =)

    2. 1

      Well said! Highly agree.

    3. 1

      in the other side:

here is how Lamborghini watch for Ferrari ... (the end you know)

"Ferrari-Lamborghini rivalry has been one of the most enduring and exciting stories in the automotive world for many decades. It all started with an insult when allegedly Ferruccio Lamborghini challenged Enzo Ferrari by claiming that his tractor has a better clutch than his Ferrari.

This comment didnโ€™t sit well with Ferarri, so he replied to Lamborghini โ€œlet me make cars, you stick to making tractorsโ€ thinking he was a mere farmer and didnโ€™t understand the craftsmanship or engineering behind creating a great sports car."
      source: https://fastrackexperiences.com.au/news/lamborghini-vs-ferrari

      1. 2

Your response has hidden truth within itself. It's wise to follow fellow indie hackers if you are creating the same product, but better, just like the Lamborghini guy. What I mean is that by following many IHs, you can get lost in the wild. The internet is so noisy, and it's important not to digest everything you see in this wild world.

  4. 4

Iโ€™m surprised no one mentioned @csallen and Channing. With them now back to indie hacking this site, their joureny is going to be fun to keep an eye on

Qayyum Rajan (https://twitter.com/qayyumrajan) is definitely someone to pay attention to!

A true bootstrapper, 5x founder with 3 successful exits. Finance guy who turned to development (usually it's other way around). Also SEO wizard.
