A technical person perceives marketing as black magic. It deals with hardly predictable human beings. And engineers work with deterministic machines which always do what they were asked to do (ok, not always🤫). Algorithms and computers give an immediate result, while marketing campaigns take weeks and months to get to the level of optimal performance.
If you are a tech guy, how do you run marketing for your company/startup? Do you hire someone or do you build your marketing campaigns by yourself from scratch?
Build marketing directly into the product, if possible. That's always a good start.

@simplisticallysimple do you think it is enough? I can be wrong but it sounds not enough aggressive🤨

Hey, @gvidon I'm an engineer that now solves marketing problems. I migrated into marketing because, for most businesses, most of the risk that business takes on is actually "market risk"—can you build AND distribute the offering for an acceptable price?
Now that there's thousands more offerings on the market, distribution is a much more difficult problem.
These days I think about companies (it's marketing, finances, product, etc) as just one system, as this makes more sense. Marketing, Product, and Engineering are much more integrated now by necessity.
This is why you've probably heard of people recruiting "Heads of Growth"—this is basically what they do.
"Growth Hackers" were just technical, data-driven people moving into marketing.
I do my own marketing, but if i was trying to find someone to do my marketing for me, I'd want to find someone very technical (possibly currently an engineer) that's demonstrably interested in solving marketing problems, or even better—is already solving those problems.
I think it's worth questioning some of your assumptions about marketing and whether your technical skills are opposites. Check out this guide I wrote, I think you'll like it: https://citizenkev.in/indie-marketing
Frankly, I think engineers and technical people are better positioned to solve marketing problems than most traditional marketers—especially once they have a few basic mental tools......
Thanks for such a detailed insight! I have the same thoughts about engineers to be better marketers than persons without a technical background. It is typical for engineers to go deep into the problem and do research. Also, as you mentioned the data-driven approach — this is something that can bring predictability to marketing niche.
Feel free to ask me any questions that come up, and i'll respond directly or add them to the guide.
A good question. Cold calling, emailing, ads, submissions, SEO, help here. Also kind of an affiliate plan could help. That's yet to work for me. Yes. Adding a 'made using' link works.
Do leave an option to give feedback for visitors to answer why are they not buying / who they are.
For me too marketing is a black magic. Haha...
