Who has built a directory with no-code? And how?

I saw this asked recently and I'm intrigued.

For those that no-code, if you had to build a directory of resources, how would you go about it?

Do you have any examples of live websites and no-code tools that are being used?

    Hey Rosie!

    I created (still in WIP) http://lunchsofts.softr.io/ - www.lunchsofts.com with Airtable & Softr.io!

Quite a powerful combination that allows to have a very nice output very quickly!

    Hi Rosie 👋

My first no-code product was a directory called bestof2019lists.com which I made with Table2Site.com. Since then I've been a fan of different curation and directory sites.

The tool I've been using the most recently is Pory.io. SupportYourLocalLeeds.com is one of the sites I built with Pory as a local directory of businesses to support during the local lockdowns.

For anyone making a directory I would recommend gathering details in an Airtable base or Google Sheets as these no-code tools have very easy connectivity and you can build something quickly using a template.

    Some other options:
    Softr.io
    Sheety.co
    Siteoly.com
    Spreadsimple.com

Will be making tutorials over at badunicorn.vc soon :)

I've been doing this in Notion with the help of two tools:

    1. Save to Notion webclipper to aggregate content into a database.
    2. Super.so, to take care of the public facing aspect.

If there's enough interest in this I'll provide a tutorial showing you how to do this step by step.

For my project, I used Pory.io which is integrated with Airtable as the backend. Pory gives you 6 directory style templates to choose from and you can customize them with or without code.

You input the data into airtable and name them so they match the "cards" on your front end. You can also create forms for directory submissions which is really helpful!

It also integrates with Wordpress or Webflow for more custom solutions.

If anyone is interested I can set up a workshop and we can build together :)

Techyletters.io was built using Pory and airtable.

For Uncommunity we used Webflow to create a directory of resources and tools related to Internet Communities.

List of people you can follow, list of podcasts that you can listen to, list of books that you can read to learn about building and growing communities successfully.

I guess it depends on what you're trying to do with the directory but if you want to make a simple directory of resources like https://startupstash.com/ for example, I've used the Chipmunk Theme which was designed for simple directories. It's easy to use and has some useful features built in like memberships, ratings, and view count. Not a bad way to get a curated directory up and running in a few hours with no learning curve, for $60. And it's Wordpress so you can easily customize it.

Does anyone can recommend some case studies for directory built with Airtable?

I'm building out this sustainability resource library on Webflow - https://ted-resource-library.webflow.io/ (It's not quite finished yet, Still needs a few tweaks)

Started from this webflow cloneable site: https://webflow.com/website/Founderpad-CMS-Resource-Showcase

Virtual Mojito is a directory of virtual event / meeting products. Built completely without code.

    Here's the tech stack:

    • Front end & directory: Notion
    • Submittion form: Airtable
    • Approval process: Zapier + Gmail
    • Content: Substack

I'm not sure if it counts as no-code but I have zero code ability and was able to set up a directory with the MyListing 2.0 Wordpress theme (Demo: https://main.mylistingtheme.com/). For greater customization, I then joined the MyListing 2.0 Facebook group and found a ton of helpful resources along with a developer who specialized on that theme who carried out some amazing (and v cheap) custom dev work. I found this approach was v straightforward for building a really solid MVP.

Does it count if I actually built the tool that lets you build a directory without code?

Before I learned to code proper, I used Joomla to make websites for the various bands I was in from my teen years well through college. My personal music site is still a Joomla site. https://troisimusic.com

I built a mailing list using only the back-end/admin portal of Joomla CMS. I'd either get people who landed on the page and created an account, which would automatically add them and I could sift and sort them as an admin, or at shows we played where people would physically hand-write their name and email address on a piece of paper on a clipboard. I'd go home and input each and every one manually. This started in 2003!

The easy one is airtable, you can customize that platform as you wish and it's very inexpensive.

If you want a more complex and ready to go platform, also a bit more expensive, you can use partnerpage.io, that's what we built our marketplace on for my company, StartupStarter.co

Great marketplace! I would love to learn more about your experience using partnerpage.

Super easy, you can customize it as you please and embed it right into your site. We're still working on making it better and better.

Hi Rosie! We have a no-code directory product called @ Apideck that includes a pre-existing database of 14,000 SaaS products and companies.

    https://www.apideck.com/products/ecosystem

We offer a free plan, and as a fellow Indiehacker, we would be able to provide you with a large discount ;)

    Hey there!

I have used Airtable + Carrd + Gumroad for Bootstrap Toolkit. I will look for the UI soon!

    Hey Rosie,

I build https://ecommframe.com with only Nocode tools.

I used Brizy.cloud to make the landing page. It's a great tool that don't get talked about often in my opinion. It’s free and allows you to do almost whatever you want. The best part that you can't find in other website builders is that you can link your domain name for FREE. You therefore have a complete free site (excluding the purchase of the domain name).

The graphics are done with Canva. The database with Airtable which with its filter / group functions perfectly fulfills its role to do research in the database according to your objectives. I also used Zapier to auto generate tool screenshots, titles and descriptions.

Finally Gumroad which allows the payments side and the distribution of the file. They recently added the feature of recurring payments.

Here is a quick summary of the tools I used :

That looks really good, great job!

Hey Rosie! Can you elaborate a bit on what you mean by "directory"??

We've built several lists using WeBase to create a type of directory of website designs we like, or other NoCode tools etc. You can see a few of them here:

    https://www.webase.com/a-list-of-lists

This is done just be creating a simple data model in WeBase that has a public view on it. Happy to connect with you more on this if you are interested.

If you want something super fast and easy to setup i'd with a tool that use Airtable as a backend like table2site.com.

If you want that directory to be private, then use the same stack as I use for spreadtheworld: airtable + card + gumroad.

Happy to talk more about it if needed!
