Who has had success with Google ads?

Please share a link to your product and tell us how you've capitalized on Google ads in marketing it. I would also be curious to hear how much you spend on ads.

Thanks!!

I used AdWords with just $200 per month to seed my product with first users. I liked it for several reasons:

    • check which keywords convert
    • watch usage via Inspectlet to identify and remove onboarding obstacles
    • simply get first usage rolling, start conversations with users

Here I didn't care about ROI and it's only little money invested so it was well worth it.

This seems like a great use of Google ads. And $200/mo isn't nothing, but it would be doable if you budgeted for it. Thanks for the information!

Interesting, I plan to do something similar to re-invest part of the revenue. Thanks for sharing it!

What year was this? Would you consider other channels today such as fb, twitter or reddit ads instead?

      1. 2

It was very recently. Yes, I would consider other channels as well, this was simply the one I was most familiar with.

Is $200 enough for AdWords? I tried promoting a product with a daily ad spend of $25, it didn't bring any tangible traction worth speaking of. There was a lot of bounces and the time spent on site was abysmal.

Any strategies you used to get AdWords to work for you? Did you follow any guides?

      1. 3

I didn't follow any guides but I did have some experience with Adwords already.

I checked before the approximate price per click which was ~$1.50, so this bought around 120 visitors per month. Obviously that's not enough to make your business work but if you want to follow every single visitor's journey to learn from it then you can't have that many more.

So every morning I checked for new visitors, checked how they scrolled the landing page, which texts they selected and clicked, which pages they visited after, so basically where on the site their attention went.

Then the same for the after-signup journey. I don't remember my conversion rate to free accounts but maybe around 10%.

on top of that - you might have issues with your keyword score and landing pages, so check that out too!

We spend $900 / month on Google Ads at Atlist.

Our ROAS (return on ad spend) is about 1.2.

It's biggest use for us is SEO research. Google Ads lets me test different keywords to discover which ones are high converting.

For example: map maker doesn't convert very well but map multiple locations is much more effective.

      Makes sense. Thanks!

I run ads for clients on Google. The spend ranges from a couple of thousands to over $10K a month, but most of them are lead generation, not product sale.

You should consider typing up a summary of what you've learned on google ads for us IHers! I know I would be curious to read it.

I am working on a guide on Google Ads that would include some best practices.

I did create a Google Ads Campaign Checklist. I use it for every campaign I build and launch. It's free.

When I first launched Bank Statement Converter I used Google Ads to get the first users. I was able to get the users with the problem I was solving and even convert a few of them into customers.

Sadly I was never able to get my ads to be profitable, so I eventually stopped running them. I do plan to use paid ads to get the first few users for future product launches.

How do you market now if you don't use Google Ads?
