Who has trouble selling their product?

Hi guys,

As a technical person I have never had a problem building solutions (sometimes perfect solutions to non-existent problems), but actually getting users and/or customers is the part that I know nothing about.

In the very early stages we should be doing things that don't scale - talking to potential users, customers in forums etc. All of this is perfect - but what is stage 2?

You have 100 early users, getting great feedback and refining the product - but you know nothing about marketing?

I see 4 options:

  1. Find a marketing expert co-founder
  2. Learn about ad platforms, SEO, content writing
  3. Outsource ads, SEO, content writing
  4. Affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is the one that I'm most interested in right now. Inspired by this post by Yannick from HypeFury I started looking into First Promoter, but they are really an affiliate tracking platform.

I think I'm looking for Marketing-as-a-Service, with affiliate fees as the incentive. Would marketers and content creators even be interested in this for a product that's shown little traction?

I love the idea that I could submit my startup into a pool of others which marketers and content creators could assess for themselves, look at the incentives, and start driving traffic on the same day.

AppSumo might be the solution here, but I don't know.

I'd love to hear from founders & marketers to know if there's appetite for a platform like this, or if it already exists.

Thanks

Thanks for the link to the post about HypeFury. I will give it a try later:-)

Business is the transactions, which require selling, in most cases. It is the most difficult aspect of startups. Building a product that the market really needs helps a lot. But not everyone is so lucky to have found one:-)
