Who is building a product that's NOT for IHers?

Hey everyone, I was curious to know who was building something outside of the indie hacker/dev bubble?

Let us know what you're building! Thanks!

I’m working on an app for rock collectors that helps you identify and catalog the different rocks and minerals in your collection and see what other rock collectors in your area have found. I know it’s nerdy, but I’m a nerd. What can I say? 😂

    1. 1

Great to hear of someone working outside the usual scope. (I’m working on an app for chess players.) Curious… do you consider yours B2C or perhaps B2-Prosumer?

    2. 1

My little cousin would love this! Are you going to charge for the app?

      1. 1

I think I’ll have a free plan for small collections (<30 rocks?) and a paid plan for bigger collections. But I still have to think about it.

I'm building a weight loss program to help anyone lose weight and feel better:
    https://www.threesixfive.health

Cool to see so many interesting businesses in this thread!

    1. 1

I really like the idea of your weight loss coaching! I have looked for a coach previously myself and I think you offer a great price.

You probably know, but you should work on your landing page. IMO the milk example is stupid. Also it would be great to see the trainers. And definitely show the plan or methods of how the trainers will help lose weight.

Working on a tool to automate pulling marketing metrics from deal listing sites for small business brokers. It’s a really niche and surprising space where the buyers typically hate tech, but I’ve had a few firms pay me for a custom version of this tool so I’m hustling to get a generalized product out there for other brokers.

    Hardcover

We're building a social network for readers that's an alternative to something like Goodreads, with a modern look at what readers of today want. We're in beta now (web only) and hope to launch on iOS and Android before the end of the year.

Working on a mortgage automation tool that allows loan officers to upload taxes and complete their cash flow analysis in minutes vs 30+ minutes of doing it with an excel sheet at https://auto1003.com

    1. 1

Awesome! I'm building a deal management-ish software for loan officers! Still in very early stages but love to see others going for it!

on your sign up I get an error "Passwords cannot be submitted."

      2. 1

        Nice landing page. Looks cool.

I was trying to imagine what the product would be based on your descriptions, right now I’m seeing a front end for storage that allows notes and notifications? Tell your processor notes on a certain document and that can respond the same and get a notification?

I think a video would be nice because I was in mortgages for five years, and our branch was always chaotic in the ways they did things. We never had a great process for things, which I’m guessing is what your app would fix but since I never did it I don’t even know what something good looks like haha. If that makes sense.

I just started working on a similar thing but mine is more focused on commercial banking. I would love to see how this works.

hi there! we've built a tool for instant WebRTC testing. basically it gives you out 7 parameters of a WebRTC stream straight away: frame rate, video/audio delay, packet loss, resolution, freezes, bitrate, and a/v codec. it's free on the Google extensions store — StreamTest by Fora Soft (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/streamtest/apmgkjaoljlahcldcoekghdngcbceebf?hl=en). and we also posted a detailed instruction on how to use it (even though it turned our quite intuitive) and what each parameter indicates + how they're all calculated: https://forasoft.com/blog/article/how-to-test-webrtc-stream-quality-1231

    Hello, Alexander here. Building Minteum.net
A platform for listing upcoming and live NFT projects.

I have used Low code tools to build it so it has taken me just days to build what I have so far. Next will be the login system and a blog.

If you give me your feedback I would be very grateful. 🙂

We're building something outside of Indie Hackers, for Indie Hackers.

Leakd is a discovery and publishing platform for early-stage entrepreneurs and subject matter experts. Our purpose to help founders and domain experts validate their idea or skill by enabling them to create, share and monetise their published content.

We're having great success selling a fully AI-based video editor called Nuro.video

It takes a raw video (say, a Zoom interview recording, or a face-to-camera video course) and edits it for you with a single click :

    • removing filler words
    • highlighting important information you said
    • transcribing
    • adding animations and transitions when you switch to a new topic.

So my target market is made of experts, online course creators and coaches. Non-technical users who are typically wasting weeks on end, and thousands of dollars, on editing their own videos or outsourcing to freelancers, and can now get it done with AI instead.

I'm building direct file syncing software for those who don't want or trust the loud. Files are transferred directly between devices:

I think that Indie Hackers and/or developers would be my ideal target. But so far none of my projects target them.

Statustracker.app - for service industry like mechanics, plumbers, etc…

    Mycosplace.com - for cosplayers

Unityweather.com - I guess could be for IHers as it’s really meant for nomads, expats, travelers…

Currently working on an AI project targeting restaurants.

Oh, ok maybe one project targets IHers I just thought of. Domaingoalie.com. Though I haven’t done much of anything with it.

We created something for the football lovers out there.
People looking for FIFA World Cup tickets keep refreshing the resale platform page to see when a ticket is available.
To help save some time, we created a telegram channel(bot) that notifies you via a message when a ticket is available.

Mine really is not, its a Mind Palace app for people that already use Mind Palaces! It's pretty much what people tell you not to develop - A website for consumers from an ideia you have, but it sounded ideal for the first of the 12 startups so why not!
    Check it out! :) https://mindpalace.life

I'm building a simple game similar to wheel of fortune which gets normal folks get a bit familiar with Image Generation AI. https://diffudle.com/

Building an API for identifying links to phishing or scammy websites at https://shivatech.dev (website coming soon 😅). Thinking of providing limited access to some early birds for testing. DM if interested!

  20. 1

I'm working on this side project - A library of web-app inspirations by design patterns. Check this out for early access https://bit.ly/3AbsgYp Thanks!!

  21. 1

I'm working on UX Dictionary. It is a dictionary to help aspiring designers learn about UX.

However, non-designers might benefit from it too, so I guess it has some sort of overlap with the indie hacker bubble...maybe? What do you think?

  22. 1

For over 2 years I'm building a desktop app for Sales, IT Support, and Educators to create step-by-step guides - https://folge.me . I'm not even sure if someone from the indie hacker bubble ever bought my app :)

    1. 2

Looks really cool! And my basic German's good enough to get the (great) name :)

    2. 2

An indie hacker may well have bought your step-by-step guide & documentation creator, because software needs exactly that kind of documentation.

I've bookmarked your website for later...

    Hey there!
I'm building https://krumzi.com, a recruitment platform built around the idea of recruiters "applying" to workers (inspired by the never ending LinkedIn cold DMs from recruiters).
It helps recruiters manage their job candidates and find the ones that are fit for a job with just a few clicks.
At the same time, workers won't be spammed by jobs that they are not interested in, and they will receive passive job opportunities, so they can decide if they want to take or pass them.
It was launched about 2 months ago and so far we had 1k worker sign-ups and 6k unique visitors, so there is some interest from the workers. Still looking for the first recruiter (or company), but I am confident that we will find it soon 😅

Just published the waitlist for Privacy-first Jobs, a job board (yet another!) aimed at people interested in privacy. It's broader than just tech, in other words HR, legal, sales, design, etc. – any position that is open at a company or organisation that aims to protect people's privacy online. Planning to launch later this month… hopefully!

I'm making a web app to schedule and manage volunteers. There are a few out there already, but they're lame. So I'm bringing modern UI/UX to volunteers and managers.

None of my 3 products are made for IndieHackers.

    1. Ecommerce dropshipping tool.
    2. Ecommerce reviews app.
    3. Customer success CRM.
    1. 1

All 3 of those products are for IndieHackers! An ecommerce merchant is an exact fit for an IH’r.

“ You're an indie hacker if you've set out to make money independently. That means you're generating revenue directly from your customers, not indirectly through an employer. Other than that, there are no requirements!”

I am building a sound effects generator for game developers: Jsfxr Pro.

  30. 1

Vibehut.io is a video networking platform, built for everyone.

  31. 1

@dking How about you? What are you building?

  32. 1

I am building https://website-toolkit.co.uk which is a site checking service for website owners to track down broken internal / external links, missing images, scripts, broken google map / YouTube embeds etc. Niche things that your typical seo tool wouldn't pick up but important for owners to be aware of.

My main audience would be smaller business marketing teams that need peace of mind their sites are ok.

Wordpress sites are my main focus as I plan to do a companion plugin early next year. It can check wix and other cms based sites if its normal html and not a single pager with scripts running it.

Anyone is welcome to try it for free, just drop me an email (see my site footer).

    1. 3

Neat tool, but I'll give you a word of advice. Some people spend as little as seconds on a page before bailing.

Having your h1 tag say 404 error is a really bad idea. I'd bet money that your bounce rate will improve if you change this

      1. 4

I second this. Your hero is pretty similar to a 404 error, that'll really make users think it's a 404 page. It's the first impression, I saw the 404 header and almost left (thinking it was real).. Now will anyone want to read the description after thinking its a real 404 page?

        1. 1

I've now swapped the heading over, but would welcome your views on any of the options I've just added in a higher up comment.

          1. 2

It's better now, but maybe a little shorter? Something like "Tired of 404 errors?"

            1. 1

I've struck a middle ground with "Tired of 404 errors on your website?".

Thanks for the feedback, shall see how it goes over the coming weeks.

              1. 1

Looks good neat now. The meta description (under the header) is 439 characters, which is highly unrecommended. Should be up to 155 characters max, best SEO and UI practices. Yoast has a great article on meta description https://yoast.com/meta-descriptions/#characteristics-of-a-good-meta-description the rest is pretty good, good luck!

                1. 2

The meta description in the html is different from the text under the header. That shorter text was set via yoast. Need to review the others again as part of a December blog post. Dog fooding my own service and adding minor features as I go, can't resist but only adding the most important.

      2. 1

Challenge accepted. From the 6th Nov to 12th Nov I had a 79% bounce with 73 visitors. Most of the traffic to my site has been via a recent series of blog posts so they'd know what the site / service is about.

But yes, for the less attentive it will most likely be causing them confusion, even with the "Just kidding" directly under it.

Here are a variety of different options to put forward for feedback.

        A) "Your Website User Experience Matters. Don't give them a reason to bounce."
        B) "Find & fix common website issues - before your visitors find them."
        C) "Don't make your website visitors bounce. Easily find & fix website issues without the stress."
        D) "Do you manage a website? Do you know how many broken pages / images it has?" (Currently live heading)

This app is supplementary for every retail investor using a bare-bones brokerage platform. It turns stock picking from gambling into a proper research. Retail investor can reduce investment risk by comparing valuation results from multiple formulas and probability models. Descriptions of formulas, key data and value investing strategy are tailored specifically for people new to investing.

The assumption is that every user of bare-bones brokerage is a potential customer of Company 360 app.

I am working on Daito, a web-based 2FA autenticator that enables you to share 2FA tokens with others. IT teams love it!

It's fully browser-based, no phone needed. And yes, you can scan QR codes to add accounts. And, very unique, we support migrating from Google Authenticator (simply scan the QR code that Google Authenticator shows you on "Export accounts"). Takes less than 3 secs to migrate 20 accounts.

We are currently working on extending this with a 2FA via SMS functionality. It's basically a shared SMS Inbox in the cloud, but one that actually works (unlike Twilio and other VOIP providers), since you'll get an actual, real, physical SIM & phone number from us but accessible and shareable in any browser (currently in beta).

    1. 1

Wow that sounds great! Following you now :-)

My last project was a pinterest-style board app for people to share their favorite anime memes. I got rich quick! …JK, it died an ignominious death.
