Why are most free PDF compressors either slow, full of ads, or require sign-up?

I recently noticed something frustrating while working with PDF files.

Whenever I searched for a free PDF compressor, I kept running into the same issues:

  • Watermarks after compression

  • File size limits

  • Mandatory sign-up

  • Slow upload speeds

  • Too many ads before you can download the file

So I decided to build a simple alternative.

The goal wasn't to create another "AI-powered" tool. It was simply to make PDF compression:

  • Fast

  • Free

  • No registration required

  • Works directly in the browser

  • Keeps document quality as high as possible

Building it wasn't completely straightforward.

Some challenges included:

  • Finding the right compression balance between quality and file size.

  • Handling large PDF files without making the browser freeze.

  • Keeping processing quick on both desktop and mobile devices.

The result is a lightweight tool that anyone can use in a few clicks.

I'm still improving it, so I'd love honest feedback from fellow founders.

If you were building a PDF tool today, what feature would you add next?
