Why Checking Domain History Matters Before Buying Backlinks

I used to treat domain age as a simple metric—older meant better. But after digging deeper into link building, I realized that a domain's registration history matters much more than its original creation date.

While researching domains, I found several "aged" sites that looked trustworthy at first glance but had actually expired and been re-registered recently. That changed how I evaluate domains for backlinks and acquisitions.

Now, one of the first things I check is whether a domain has been continuously registered over time. It’s a small step, but it has saved me from investing in domains with weak trust signals and questionable link equity.

Curious how others handle domain history when evaluating link opportunities. Do you rely mainly on backlink metrics, or do you consider registration continuity as well?
