why did I make a budget tracker

I tried to figure out if I can make it monthly as a student, and there are quite a few things to consider (grants, job pay, rent, bills, food, etc).

But I got frustrated when I tried adding new incomes or expenses, having to change the formulas, exchanging the currencies by hand...

So I tried some budget tracking services online, and to my surprise...

None of them supported multiple currencies and none of them were easy to use. I registered, setup all the information, categories, usage and then didn't know what to do.

I didn't want to spend a few hours learning how to use their system, and especially not when I can't automatically convert currencies.

I decided to make a budget tracker myself, the way I wanted it to work - simple, intuitive, out-of-the-box and stuff... And it handles 300+ currencies! I'd say it's a success, to me. It came out the way I wanted.

So yeah. Here we are.

Hey, that actually sounds awesome and super relatable. I went through the exact same frustration a few months ago trying to keep track of my freelance income (some clients pay in EUR, some in USD, others in GBP). Every app I tried either buried multi-currency support deep in the settings or just didn’t have it at all.

Props to you for just building your own tracker. That’s honestly the dream making something that fits your needs instead of forcing your workflow into someone else’s system. Are you planning to share it or keep it personal?

Congrats on a launch! budgeting is til that day is an acute problem. I am still looking for a good solution for personal / family expenses:

"A" - to get a good understanding "what" do I spend money on. As simple as it sounds budgeting tools are limited to bank transactions, so in the end of the month I get a summary for "Shopping" $1.2k or "Groceries" $2k where most of it - Amazon or a local grocery store I go to. But I have no insights on the specific items. For a family and joint accounts it renders it almost useless if you try to limit spendings.

"B" - to understand how much "free" money do I have at the certain moment. The approach "I earn $4k a month and spend $3.2k, so I have $800 free" is not working, because averages is not the same as cash flow. You get money from different sources, and spend them on different things. All the expenses is a myriad of recurrent and not so much charges spread across 30 days (31, 28) of the month.

To solve both problems for myself and family, I had to often get to business accounting tools that bring a baggage or company features I just don't need at all, and don't want to pay for.

This sounds like exactly what I need! Currently I track my spend by using my calculator and my banking app at random moments...Really like the Whatsapp idea too in the comments

This hits close. Budgeting shouldn't feel like coding spreadsheets. Love how you simplified it — would love to try it!

Very well, I like it but if you can add like whatsapp to it it will be a killer feature

Something like AI in whatsapp I just send add this or that and the AI will do it for me

This is great - I've been working on similar tools for NFPs, solopreneurs and small businesses (ie. budget/forecast templates and ops tools). I do have my own version of personal budget tool I have created as well. Congrats on creating something helpful, functional and worthwhile!
