Why do “verified” B2B email lists still have such poor deliverability?

I’ve run into this problem repeatedly while doing B2B outreach and I’m curious how others here see it.

Even when buying lists marketed as verified or cleaned, deliverability is often terrible: bounces, catch-alls, or emails that were valid months ago but are dead now.

From your experience, what’s usually the real issue?

  • Data being outdated too quickly?

  • Weak or one-time verification?

  • Catch-all domains passing basic checks?

  • Sellers optimizing for volume over accuracy?

I’m especially interested in what actually worked for you in practice — whether that’s rechecking policies, filtering strategies, or changes in how you source leads.

Would love to hear real-world approaches, not theory.

Thanks, Ajayi! Right now, we're focusing heavily on community-led growth—engaging in discussions here and on HN where people are actually feeling the pain of bad data. We're finding that 'showing up' where the problem is happening beats any paid channel for us at this stage.

Congrats on the launch! What channels are you testing to bring in your first customers?

    Hey Sebastien,

Congrats on building such a clean B2B lead quality platform!

Quick question: I’m doing 5 free landing page audits this week for B2B SaaS & data platform founders (normally $97). I analyze copy, structure, and give you 3–5 specific fixes with AI-generated alternatives. Delivered in 48 hrs.

Appreciate the offer, John! We're currently locked in on a few specific UI refinements, but I'll definitely keep your audits in mind as we prep for our next major scaling push. Good luck with the other 4 founders!
