I might have an unpopular opinion among builders - I believe building in public has more potential in "storytelling/marketing" than "accountability".
When you see that your sharing is being valuable to others, and that helps your product grow, the motivation to keep going is strong.
However, if it is just an accountability tool, it can be out of air very soon because not a lot of people care about what you actually have to do, they care about what they can learn from you.
That being said, not saying it cannot be used as an accountability tool but as a marketing tool, it will go further!
"12 startups in 12 months" - these are just marketing to loop in beginners. And to ask them to build in public to share their daily todos is just another procedure in the program.
I agree with you, if someone wants to really make good use of building in public, they have to dig deeper in the why/goals.

It is interesting to see a startups metrics
It is cool seeing products evolve and change in the open (especially in response to user feedback)
