Why Do You Upvote on Product Hunt?

Products I don't want to lose. Upvote is more like a bookmark button for me.

1. Great name
2. Ooh, why didn't I think of that!
3. Oh shit, I did think of this but never did anything. nice!

When the name is so good it makes me mad I didn't think of it.

I save good ideas I could re-implement in future and helpful materials & services for my needs

I upvote something I might use, usually as a bookmark to check them later on.

I also like how my profile features a selection of products I vibed with.

I upvote useful and efficient products that are solving a problem that I'm facing.

If I think the product is great, I want to help get it more exposure. Simple!

I am a believer that every vote counts and that 'someone' does care about the work you put out. I look at the products, do a mini-test/review and if I like it, I upvote it. My small way of saying thank you.

Sometimes I upvote a discussion that I'm interested in. That way I help it to be more visible and get more comments to have more insight. :)

This is a very useful service that helps me.

I think there is a bit of genetics going on here.

We unconsciously and constantly play the tit-for-tat game.

We help other makers with an upvote, hoping we'll get some help back for our future launch.

My 2 cents after reading The Origins of Virtue 📖

It's a combination of great product for me and also supporting the maker even when I don't know them personally. Pay it forward, they say.

1. I wanted to build something similar, I hope it'll take off.
2. I can see the amount of work that was put into the product.
3. Lone maker with a great idea but without a huge number or any followers (I think for these kind of people it's really hard to reach the top of the list and they appreciate every single upvote, even more than those who hit the first place every time they launch something)

All of these reasons
Then if I really like something I collect it and go back to check the progress

1. This thing was there this entire time?
2. Supporting small startups from time to time
3. How is this product even free?
