Why I built an audio editor that doesn't make you upload anything

Why I built an audio editor that doesn't make you upload anything.

"I was just tired of the 'Upload & Pray' routine."

The idea for AudioCut came from a personal headache: why is it still such a pain to quickly edit a simple audio file in 2026?

As a creator, I was constantly stuck in this annoying loop. I’d have a 30-second voice memo or a client interview that needed a quick trim. Every time, I had two bad choices:

  1. The Bloat: Download a massive 500MB desktop app that looks like it’s from the 90s just to cut a file.

  2. The Privacy Risk: Upload my private, sensitive audio to some random cloud server and just "pray" that they aren't using my data to train their AI.

It felt stupid. Our phones and laptops have amazing chips now, so why are we still sending files across the world just to trim them? I wanted to fix that.

The "Secret Sauce": A Pro Toolbox that stays in your browser

I decided to build a "Zero-Upload" workspace. When you "upload" a file to AudioCut, it’s not actually going anywhere—it just opens in your browser’s memory. It’s instant and 100% private.

Here is what I’ve managed to pack into the browser tab so far:

  • AI Audio Splitter: This is the crowd favorite. It uses AI to separate vocals from the background music. Perfect for making karaoke tracks or sampling.

  • Audio Cutter & Cropper: Need to trim an MP3 or crop music for a TikTok? It’s a 5-second job here.

  • Video to Audio (Extractor): Just drop an MP4 or any video file, and it rips the audio out instantly.

  • Smart Compressor: Most people (including me) hate messing with complex knobs. This tool levels out your volume spikes and makes a cheap laptop mic sound professional with one click.

  • Audio Recorder: Record your voice or system audio directly into the editor without needing any extra software.

What I’ve learned as an Indie Hacker

  1. Privacy is a huge selling point: In 2026, people are scared of where their data goes. Telling a client "your file never leaves this computer" is a massive win, especially for B2B users.

  2. Fast is better than fancy: Most people don't want a million hidden menus. They want to get their task done and be out in under 30 seconds.

  3. Kill the friction: No logins, no "buy credits" pop-ups. Just open the site and get to work.

Give it a spin!

AudioCut is 100% free and everything stays on your device. I’m still working on making the AI models even lighter and faster.

  • Does the "Upload & Pray" thing annoy you too?

  • Are you guys building any "Local-First" tools? I’d love to hear how you’re handling the tech side (WASM, etc.).

Check it out at AudioCut.io and let me know what you think!
