Why I built another AI tool directory in 2026 (and my $0 budget plan to rank it)

Hi Indie Hackers,

Let’s be honest: The AI directory market is saturated. Most are just clones of clones, scraping the same 500 tools and hoping for some SEO magic that never happens.

I just launched https://www.seekaitool.com/, and today my traffic is exactly zero.

But I’m not worried. Most directories fail because they are built manually and scale slowly. I spent the last two weeks building a Semantic Programmatic SEO (pSEO) engine instead of just a website.

The Problem: Manual Curation doesn't scale
If you list tools manually, you’re playing a losing game against giants. My strategy for https://www.seekaitool.com/ isn't to compete on broad keywords like "Best AI Bot." Instead, I’m targeting Intent-Based Long-tails using a fully automated workflow.

The Tech Stack (How I’m fighting the giants):
Discovery: A script that scans niche GitHub repos and X (Twitter) trends for under-the-radar AI tools before they even hit Product Hunt.

Semantic Mapping: Using LLMs to categorize tools not just by "Tags," but by the Jobs-to-be-Done (JTBD).

Programmatic Landing Pages: I’ve built a template that automatically generates "Alternative to" and "Workflow integration" pages. The goal is to have 5,000 indexable pages by the end of next month.

The "Day 1" Transparency Report:
Time to build: 55 hours (focused on the automation backend).

Unique Visitors: 0 (Launched literally hours ago).

Tools indexed: 1,200+ structured entries.

Total spend: $0 (Using Vercel’s hobby tier and a custom scraper).

The Goal: Reach 100 organic clicks/day within 30 days without spending a cent on ads.

My Unfair Advantage
Instead of a general list, I'm focusing https://www.seekaitool.com/ specifically on AI Automation & Developer Workflows. I want it to be the "technical" directory for builders, not just a gallery for casual users.

I need your advice
Since I’m starting from zero traffic, what would be your "Move #1" to get the first 100 users?

Direct Outreach: Message tool founders to claim their profiles.

Social Blast: Build a "Faceless" video bot to post tool highlights on TikTok/X.

Community Value: Write deep-dive guides on how to stack these tools.

What do you think of the "Programmatic" approach? Is it still viable in 2026? Please roast my current setup!
