Why I Built Makeform AI

Earlier this year, I stumbled across a domain name I couldn’t resist: formai.com. Something about it clicked. I didn’t know what I was going to build at first, but I knew I had to do something with it.

At the time, I had no plans to dive into the form-building space. But the domain sparked an idea: What if you could use AI to create forms, quizzes, and surveys — just by chatting? It sounded like a fresh take on a well-worn industry, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Everything was going smoothly until I hit an unexpected roadblock: the domain violated a trademark.

By that point, I had already poured weeks into the project. Stopping wasn’t an option. I knew I had to pivot — fast.

That’s when I came up with a new name: Makeform AI. It felt just right. A simple, memorable name that reflects exactly what the tool does — making forms with the help of AI.
