Why I Built My Own Word Counter Instead of Using Existing Ones

When I started building ClipGG, I wasn't trying to create a collection of tools.

I was simply fixing the small things that kept slowing me down every day.

One of those was a word counter.

It sounds like one of the simplest tools on the internet. There are hundreds of them already.

But every time I searched for one, I ran into the same problems.

Some were full of ads.

Some wanted me to create an account.

Some locked basic statistics behind a paywall.

Others just felt slow and cluttered.

Eventually I stopped looking for a better one and built my own.

The goal wasn't to create "the best word counter."

It was to create the one I actually wanted to use every day.

So I only included the features I personally need:

• Word count

• Character count

• Characters without spaces

• Sentences & paragraphs

• Reading time

• Speaking time

• Keyword density

Everything updates instantly while typing, and everything runs directly in the browser.

No uploads.

No account.

No subscriptions.

No unnecessary friction.

Building this tool also changed how I think about ClipGG.

I realized people don't really care about "another word counter."

They care about removing tiny frustrations from their workflow.

That's now the philosophy behind every tool I'm adding.

I'm curious...

What's one small utility you use almost every day that you think could be much better?
