Why I Request Users to Pay for my BETA. (LP Hack)

This is an experiment I have only started running today, and I'm already giggling at the thought of this conversion rate...

So if you haven't clicked the link yet, I basically have two signup forms at the bottom of my landing page. (https://www.spreadtech.online/)

The first one is for a $1 Prime access account to the Spread Beta.

The second is a $0 Standard access account to the Spread Beta.

What do I hope to achieve?

A higher conversion rate into the free plan... Bet you never saw that coming.

I don't care about the $1's. I want the emails.

I believe having two options, paid and unpaid, will lead to a much higher conversion rate into the unpaid option. Rather than just leaving it at one option.

I also believe the ones that do pay the $1 will have a much higher retention and engagement rate within the launched beta.

The psychology behind this

Have you ever spoken to anyone, and they ask you a favour like " Can I borrow your [favourite] pen?"

You say "no", as it's your favourite. But then they ask, "well can I have your old pen then?"

You reply "yes" as a way to subside the guilt for originally saying no.

The same will happen on my landing page (I believe).

Users generally won't signup for a paid BETA. Especially on a WIX made landing page. But they definitely will (and many have) signed up on the free one.

This will be especially effective for users who would have otherwise closed the page and turned away.

What do you think?

I want to hear what you guys think of this method and if you'll be using it on your product's landing page?

Let me know below and ask any questions too!

if you want me to do a results follow up to this then let me know and I will!

Hi Louis, I think this can definitely work to increase your conversion. However, what I'm starting to notice that a lot of my signups are just people who want to check it quickly and leave. Most of them are solopreneurs. Although there's nothing wrong with them, I do believe that they will have different feature requests than the companies I'd like to reach eventually.

So will the people who sign up for your free plan eventually buy your product? And if not, will your product become attractive for people who are ready to spend some cash?

    1. 1

I have to admit to you I was one of those solopreneurs who checked out your product, saw the "14 spots remaining" quickly signed up, and then I haven't really returned since.

I don't see targetaudience as a necessity right now, I see it as a great tool I can use in the future for my real landing page. But right now it just isn't a necessity for me.

I hope that helps you understand the solopreneur perspective. keep on with the emails and that though down the line, bring people back in...

Who do you want to reach?

I believe those who opt in for the free plan will eventually buy, and even if they don't and still use the free plan I will get great exposure through product-led growth and the built-in viral features. Either way idc ahhaha

wow, what a smart idea to implement! Do let me know what the results are for your experiment. I will try to implement it on my project too. Thanks!

      Thank you very much!

I can't take all the credit but the majority was an 'original' idea :)

What project do you want to implement it on?

  3. 2

    @gordon

I became inspired by your "request access" on https://startupsanctuary.com/

So I can take all the credit for this :D

Very interesting experiment my man. Would love to see the results after a couple weeks!

      1. 1

I will share with you asap - traffic has stalled though. I'm not reaching the number 1 spot on IH like I used to before. The algorithm is killing me :(

  4. 2

    Hey Louis.
I actually think it's a great idea. Keep us updated on how your experiment works out.

      Hey, Pete thanks so much!!!

Means the world to me mate - I'll do a follow up in a few week's time to see the conversion rate.

      Thanks for your interest :)

    @FalakSher

Indieletters potential here or nahh? hahahaha

    1. 2

      Full potential bro!

But I will feature it next week as this week's newsletters are scheduled just 5 minutes earlier after spending 2 days curating the stuff.

And I checked your landing page. Add a border to email and name fields so that people know where to click for adding email (background is white and it does not look so good) And I remember there was some script or functionality by which users mouse on hover automatically make the email field click (I can't describe it exactly)

      1. 1

Thank you man much appreciated. I may do a follow up with some results after. However, my traffic has stalled recently so conversion rate may not be true. We will see...

I've just added the border on the email section, thank you very much for that suggestion!

        Falak you're a g.

        1. 2

You added the thick border and CTA border is thin as compared to it. Add button background now. 😅

            Imgur

Make both currencies similar and if possible, use $ as your payment currency

            1. 2

all done, you absolute geeza. Thank you very much my man

I love having another set of eyes review my work. I miss so many small details

              Cheers my man
