Why I Stopped Using Extensions and Apps to Save WhatsApp Contacts (and Built a Better Alternative)

I’ve been running WhatsApp-based lead campaigns for a while now. A lot of the people who message me aren’t saved in my contacts — which means every day I deal with a bunch of unknown numbers. At first, I was saving them manually. Then I started looking for tools to speed things up.

I tried Chrome extensions and Android apps that claimed to extract or save WhatsApp contacts in bulk. Some of them worked for a while, but honestly, the experience wasn’t great.

Here’s what I ran into:

• Most extensions asked for access to everything in my browser

• The apps wanted permissions to read my contacts, media, even messages

• Tools would break every time WhatsApp updated

• Some slowed down my browser or phone

• I even got a warning from WhatsApp once

• Many were filled with ads or required payments for basic features

That’s when I decided to build something simple and safe that just does the job without all the extra mess.

I made a tool called Numbo — it lets you extract and save unknown WhatsApp numbers by uploading a screenshot from WhatsApp Web. That’s it. No app to install, no login required, and no browser access needed.
