why im betting on devto articles over IH posts for actual revenue

ive posted 47 times on indie hackers and 37 times on dev.to. neither has made me a dollar. but im betting devto pays off first. heres why.

IH posts dont rank on google. indie hackers uses a firebase SPA. google can index it but the content doesnt rank well for commercial keywords. nobody searching "agency email list" or "SEO chrome extension" is going to find my IH posts.

dev.to articles rank immediately. dev.to has massive domain authority. articles show up in google search results within days. my article about scraping agency emails could rank for "scrape agency emails python" — a keyword actual buyers would search.

the strategy shift: instead of posting 10 more IH articles, i should post 5 more dev.to articles targeting specific keywords like "cold email outreach pipeline python", "free SEO audit tool chrome extension", "agency contact list download". each article has gumroad product links embedded. if even one ranks on page 1, it drives buyer traffic directly.

IH still has value — community, collaboration opportunities (viascan), and brand building. but for revenue, dev.to + google SEO is the play.
