When a launched GrowthList (https://www.thegrowthlist.co/) in November 2018, the idea was to create a crowd-sourced list of growth hacks. The website went quite viral after the launch on Product Hunt and my analytics went crazy. But despite thousands and thousand of daily users, GrowthList has never really been "crowed-sourced". In 10 months, only 15 people shared a growth hack, and only 4 of them were worth sharing.
In the meantime, I've learned a lot about Growth, and promoting "hacks" whereas Growth is a matter process and methodology seemed to me to be a mistake.
So I destroyed the old version of GrowthList to build a new platform that allows growth teams to share their knowledge and the results of their experiment.
Still WIP but I feel like this new version is already much better than the old one.
What do you think ? Your feedback are more than welcomed !
From my experience you can't expect people to just appear and contribute content. Especially at the beginning. You need to hassle people (nicely) more than you probably want to get people contribute. It gets easier over time, but it's a myth that people will naturally appear to write good stuff for you.
I'd recommend some kind of plan/action to reach out to people to get them to contribute.
Thanks Rosie. Yeah that's what I planned to do. As long as I don't have natural traction, I'll contact specific people to ask them to contribute.
Do you have ideas of what kind of action I could do to get people to contribute ? Apart from sharing GrowthList in growth hacking communities.
I don’t know the old site but I do like the new site. Do you think that teams will share their growth hacks or do you write the content?
Thanks Michaela !
Well that's the big question. I hope teams will share their experiments but I must find what will be the best incentives to them. For exemple, the recruitment of growth marketers is quite competitive, sharing their best experiments could be a good way to improve their employer branding. Or maybe I should focus the incentives on personal branding...
I don't know yet, do you have ideas ?
A good incentive would be telling them that they will get a link to their website., just like a guest post.
Marketers are always looking for ways to improve their domain authority and SEO.
Thanks Andrea that's a good idea ! Something like https://growthhackers.com
