My startup might soon be acquired! It's not for an earth-shattering sum, but it's a validation that someone else values the product we've built. In the midst of this exciting development, I stumbled upon the Indie Hackers podcast and became hooked. Why? Because I never liked the pressure to pursue the VC route and prioritize explosive growth over profitability. I've lived this experience and quickly realized it's not a path I want to continue.
As I ventured deeper into the Indie Hacker community, I found a treasure trove of values that resonated with me. So, I'm embarking on a new journey, but I've set some ground rules to keep me on track:
First, I'm going to build everything in public, sharing all my experiences and learning from both my successes and mistakes. This will help keep myself accountable and hopefully help others as well.
Second, I'm keeping my sights set on acquisition. While I love building products, I have a short attention span and want to keep things fresh. Plus, I believe looking to get acquired provides a helpful reality check on the actual value of your product.
Here's where things get juicy: I don't necessarily have to love the problem I'm solving. Yes, you heard that right. I'm not saying you should hate your job, but I don't believe a deep emotional connection is always necessary to be successful. I just need to stay engaged enough to get a deep understanding of the problem and build a kick-ass solution.
No more paid marketing! Trust me, I've been down that rabbit hole before. It's tempting to throw money at Facebook ads, but it's a slippery slope that can lead you to build a product that nobody wants. Instead, I'm confident that organic growth is the key to unlocking product-market fit.
So, what am I working on right now? I'm psyched to announce Taskist, a CRM built specifically for freelancers. With Taskist, you can track all your projects, stay on top of deadlines, manage your time efficiently, and most importantly, automate billing for your clients. Plus, I've added a special feature that displays a daily summary of your tasks, so you can see at a glance what's on your plate for the day.
If this sounds like your jam, join the waitlist and be one of the first to get access to the beta release soon! I'm thrilled to see where this journey takes me, and I can't wait to share my experiences with you.
Congrats on the new journey, and may you new SaaS be successful!
