Why is Product Hunt so popular?

Traffic it generates 🤷‍♂️

I think its been said but two things:

• Social Proof
• Acquisition of users (from a pool of hungry people)

Why is PH so popular among founders in your opinion?

Well I think it's basically the browsability of HackerNews with visuals better suited to the mainstream. Also the idea that someone could find a useful tool (usually some sort of office worker) is pretty alluring -- generates that feeling of motion, even if it's not progress.

I get the feeling that many SaaS founders are treating Product Hunt like the "holy grail" of their launch

Well I put some stock in an idea I've heard a bunch of times now -- focusing on one launch is probably not a good idea in general. Products have 10s if not 100s of "launches".

Because admit it or not, we're social animals and have a "social proof" bias. I think this bias is hurting us in case of PH.

It does not generate traffic as you assume. It may never bring quality buyers too. Just that, it was popular due to the credibility it built during the early days and they are sustaining.

I used to love PH. Been checking it every day for years – probably one of the earliest users. But in the last two years or so I've rarely found anything useful on there. It's just a bunch of fly-by-night side projects, crypto junk, and useless clones of other popular projects.

Frankly PH is the only place where you can get decent feedback for your product.
Good network, good community, good incentives.

I've checked out most others, and I always come back to ProductHunt.

What I think they got right is genuinely improving based on the needs of founders.
Their whole experience is unmatched.

It's the only place where you can launch and organically expose yourself to hundreds of users (used to be thousands, but there's a lot of noise right now in the SaaS world).

It's a lot easier to get your first X customer from PH compared to most other channels.

Is Product Hunt useful for consumer products like Breakout, which is a web app for skin care enthusiasts?

I think PH is so popular because it's popular to get the #1 app of the day title. People care about that so they wait until they've got customers and a proven app and then "launch" on PH. I've seen sites that launched years before eventually go on PH just to get that #1 app title. And then people see these successful apps on PH and think PH had something to do with it and also want that #1 app title.

I am within the first 150 makers on ph... And I think is so overrated.

Half of my products have made it to the five first.

In two days i made almost 2k...

Most of my launches were unprepared,... Just not point todo so because it doesn't depend on you bit on PH...

Little has been said about its artificial scarcity. Who's created this urgency where success is all about Launch Day or nothing? Upvote galore or oblivion. LOL

For most software products, a race against time makes no sense. Runway should be the only stopwatch ticking. Meanwhile, "ugly duck" SEO will bring you the best organic traffic, hands down. Time-box your feature releases, but not your whole company (and health)!

Don't get me wrong: I'm a sinner, too. I just want to redeem myself and build better, not faster.

I think Product Hunt has become the defacto when it comes to launching products because of its wide acceptance and the community that really is active because it's bringing both side a lot of value.

Funny period starts when 1000 PH signups convert into 3 paying users

From talking to product managers and marketers, I see that ProductHunt is leading the way among sites where startups want to launch.

Why? The answer is simple - Product Hunt is the largest international site with an audience interested in technology, business, and especially where these two things intersect. The hunt is all about innovation lovers, investors, and industry journalists.

I guess people just want to discover new products and on the other hand product owners want a free promotion

It's just sheer volume of the traffic they have. They have the world's largest community of early adopters, I believe.

At least when I look at the website rankings and organic traffic estimates in tools like Semrush, they have 3 times the traffic of appsumo, which is huge.

There is nothing special about the website, it's just that they probably started the whole product launch thing first, and they have the biggest community.

I launched recently on appsumo and stackcommerce with what for me is some success (some sales, reviews, and most of all lots of feedback from paying customers and early adopters).

I left Product Hunt to the end, I want to first learn from the launches from these other websites before trying it.

Does anyone recommend other product launch websites other than Product Hunt?

Or similar coupon/ deals websites that are worth it as well?
