Why isn't my landing page converting?

I have a landing page for used cars, but it's not converting well. The traffic is pretty targeted, having specifically expressed interest in a particular vehicle make & model.

Here's an example: https://zipzip.io/vehicles/9432984

Do you have any ideas about how to better communicate the value proposition and encourage people to complete the on-page contact form?

Thanks,

You have to consider what kinds of people buy used cars. There's probably at least two types (just guessing, but real market research and customer interviews would tell you there's more...).

    • I know what I want, and I want the best price. In that case all your data (make, model, trim, engine, fuel, etc) would be super relevant, but I would also like to compare what similar cars are selling for in my area.

The value proposition here is: getting details, finding you the best price, being a search engine.

    • When I was in high school, I didn't know what I want, but I knew I wanted a car. And I want to buy used in order to save money. What's available in my price range? I want something instantly drivable that doesn't require frequent maintenance.

The value proposition here is: making things simple, finding you something that meets your needs.

Now imagine just for those two personas, the user experience of your webpage is going to be totally different.

So my question is... who is your customer? And what needs are important to them?

What do your conversion rates look like, and where do you expect them to be?

I don't know much about used car sales, having never even considered buying one myself. But here are my thoughts on the particular landing page you linked:

    • There's only one photo, and it looks like a stock photo. If the seller has more photos, I assume they'd have uploaded them here. And I don't want to take the time to inquire more about a used car if there aren't more photos.
    • It says "New!" at the top, but isn't this used? Do you mean the listing is new but the car is used?
    • Your call-to-action form is vague and has too much friction. Contact the seller for more information? What information, specifically, should I be asking about that's not already listed here? You should either put that information on the listing itself, or auto-fill my message so I don't have to think about what to ask.
    • Also, why do you need my name, email, and phone number so quickly? You're asking me to enter all of that before I even know what I'm getting. That's just more friction. I'd switch things around. Have visitors invest the time in crafting their message (with your help, as I mentioned above), and then after they submit it ask for their email or phone number so they can see the reply.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks those are all really good tips! Especially about the order and commitment

The only reason both phone and email are required is because that's a requirement from the dealers. Otherwise I wouldn't require both.

Stock photo doesn't help. Feels like it is just a generic page.

What did I do to get to this page? Did I search of fill out a form. Show evidence of how I got there to connect my previous action with the next.

Good point about the stock photos. Not all of them have stock photos, many have shots of the actual vehicle in question on the dealer lot. Normally, a user would do a search for a particular make, model and location.
