We launched Jobsolv, our AI-powered job search platform, on Product Hunt.
It was stressful.
It was chaotic.
And in the end? It didn’t move the needle on revenue.
Here’s what happened and what we learned.
The Launch Day Disaster
We were prepped. Our listing was clean. We were trending between #2 and #3 for most of the day.
But then the worst thing happened—our developer, who was supposed to push the final code to production, fell asleep (literally). Our software wasn't fully ready, and the Product Hunt team took our listing down.
They told us we could relaunch the following weekend.
We emailed them.
Crickets.
No relaunch. No response. And we never got back on the homepage.
But here’s the kicker—we still grew.
We now have tens of thousands of users and we’re profitable. No Product Hunt required.
What Most People Don’t Tell You About Product Hunt
Ranking doesn’t mean revenue
If your paid users aren’t hanging out on Product Hunt, it won’t matter how well you rank.
It’s not a B2C audience
Most people on there are other founders, indie hackers, and PH influencers trying to game the algorithm. They’re not your customer—they’re your peers. Respectfully, they don’t want to pay you.
Consultants will flood your inbox
As soon as you launch, get ready for the flood of PH “experts” and “consultants” on LinkedIn. Most just want to sell you a service or upvote farm. Worst case, if you work with the wrong one, your listing can get banned.
Ignore them.
Vanity metrics ≠ business growth
Getting upvoted feels nice, but it’s internet points. It doesn’t mean product-market fit, retention, or profit.
Broken incentives
Some of the top-ranking products didn’t even have a working product—just a waitlist. Somehow they still made it on the list. I don't know.
What Did We Get Out of It?
We shipped faster. The deadline helped us push harder.
We cleaned up our onboarding and landing page.
We got some short-term traffic and backlinks.
That’s about it.
If You're Thinking About Launching on Product Hunt
Ask yourself these first:
Are your actual customers even on Product Hunt?
Do you already have a working funnel that brings in users or revenue?
Will this meaningfully move your business forward or just make you feel good for a day?
If you’re B2C or bootstrapping, you’re probably better off doubling down on what’s already working—content, SEO, cold outreach, communities, whatever it is that’s bringing real users.
We chased a launch that didn’t align with our audience. And it nearly derailed our timeline, added a ton of stress, and didn’t return the effort we put in.
We’re good now. Profitable. Growing.
But next time, we’re staying focused on revenue, not rankings.
