Why my product is free and I don't want to charge for it

I started Happy Mood Score 8 years ago. It's a team management app (SaaS). It helps you get feedback, send peer-to-peer rewards, share ideas and it has a simple yet effective 1 on 1 planner.

It's free and I have no intention of changing that. These are the main reasons why.

  • It's a side project so I have other sources of income.
  • Charging for it will require a level of support that I can't provide.
  • This tool is not easy to integrate into organizations. Getting regular feedback is not as simple as using a tool. If employees don't see the value they stop giving feedback. It's not a problem of the tool, it requires involvement from management and some times consultancy.
  • I love this project and it helped me learning a lot both as a web developer and as a team manager.
  • In your daily job you have seldom the opportunity to work on all aspects of a SaaS product. Here I can do that. I take decisions on all aspects: Marketing pages, design, UX, features, technology, customer support... I'm the only one to blame :-)
  • Some big names in the industry are using the tool.

So far it's been 8 years and I think it's time well spent.

I would like to know your opinions. Do you agree with me? Am I doing it wrong? What should I do in the next 8 years?

Thanks,
