Why Paying For Something You Can Get For Free?

I use Netlify for my website https://angora.me because Netlify provide complete feature (SSL, hosting, deployment, etc) for free.
Another service such AWS, Azure, Firebase, etc, there are good. But the feature isn't as complete as Netlify. You need to integrate with external deployment to make it works. Or you have to subscribe monthly payment to upgrade the limitation.
I don't affiliated with Netlify or another service above. But I just curious, why so many people out there choose another service with limited feature and monthly payment for their static website?

Generally I avoid being dependent on these stacks that obscure the underlying infrastructure. Makes moving on more difficult but I'm deeply into software and systems at that level.

With Netlify, you see that they have their own Analytics, which is $9/month. They also charge $45/month for password protection, multiple team members, multiple owners, notifications.
The whole point of services with a free tier is to lock you in while you are small and make you pay money later once you outgrow the free tier. That's perfectly fine, and for some, the free tier will be enough.
Some people prefer using AWS and other services because they have experience with those, because they have negotiated better prices or because they have security guidelines that Netlify can't satisfy.
I must say that Netlify is a welcome change to the static hosting scene. But for any project that you need more control over, a self-hosted or managed-hosted system will eventually be required.

It feels a lot better to use something, I'm paying for.
I dont know really why. Maybe it is because you take it more serious when you pay for something.
Pay per use payment is also good for long term project.
Netlify isn't free, you're just on free plan maybe. That's similar to other products - free plan is used to help you grow into other (paid) plans.

So as soon as I started earning money, I started paying for software cause I want to support those companies and help them not run out of business.

I know that company will grow their business with charging for monthly payment, one time payment, pay per use payment, etc. But there also big company (such Cloudflare) that grow widely because of their free tier. Premium member will get more feature, but for personal use, their feature is more than enough. And I think Cloudflare will not grow as big as this year if they don't provide free tier program.

Yes. But many people out there choose paying product only for their static website.
