Hey guys, so I've seen a lot of people swear by Twitter. People here often chase more followers, and many founders on the podcast rave about it too.
I'm personally struggling to see why.
I tried using it this week and got a little bored. I follow some cool people that I look up to, but I found that I don't really care about their daily posts.
I also feel a little wierd posting. I'm not sure what people like to see when they follow others.
So I'm curious, why do you use Twitter and what value do you get out of it (as a consumer and poster)?
Also who are some cool people that you follow who you particularly enjoy?
Cheers
Make social, and especially Twitter a great inbound marketing source. This is what we do with RiteKit. Nothing beats Twitter, nine years straight. Build an audience based on the content you curate and share as you soft-sell to those that click URLs in your posts.
Here's exactly how I do this myself
Thanks! I'll check out the link
Simple. Depending on your niche, Twitter is possibly the best free source of targeted traffic on the internet.
Best because you actually have direct, active control over how much traffic you drive to it by your effort (as opposed to, say, SEO, where the causal effect between your effort and results might be a little more blurry).
Whatever your niche is, chances are there exists a community on Twitter for it.
So look for that corner of Twitter, be present, and interact with your potential customers.
The magic about Twitter is that, if you do it right, you won't have to look for the sale -- the sale will find you.
Post great content, comment great content, you become some sort of authority, and naturally people will click on your profile and also click on your URL. Bam, they're on your landing page all of a sudden, and you have a chance of converting them to a paying customer. This can also be scaled up if you schedule your tweets and automate your content creation somewhat.
If you're unfamiliar with Twitter and Twitter culture/etiquette, you might want to just make it a point and be there first, follow a bunch of micro-influencers in the space, and make yourself visible. Before that, you should of course optimize your Twitter profile, growth hack your follower count, and then if you want monetize it.
I've also written a comment on IH a few months back on how to growth-hack your Twitter: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/how-did-you-grow-your-twitter-audience-7d90d6b42e?commentId=-M5fLxeiEksbPW02gp_C
Hope this helps! If you want to talk about this, just drop me an email at jay@zlappo.com, and I'll try my best to help.
PS I'm the founder of a Twitter growth tool company + author of a Twitter growth hacking blog
Is there a good way to seek out these communities? Or does it happen organically by following micro-influencers?
Really depends on your niche.
Twitter is a very diverse place composed of various niches:
Not so much for enterprise sales of course, naturally.
It's very "personal brand"-based.
If your product falls under any of those categories, then yes Twitter will be marvelous for you.
Start with the search bar, search your keywords, and follow the big influencers that pop up, engage with their content and make yourself visible.
The rest you'll learn as you go along.
Much love!
Thanks for the great reply! Those are some sweet links, I'll be sure to check them all out.
This was the thread I was looking for a month (For this name Eugene Gu, MD). Now adding it to https://indieletters.com/
I had twitter account for 10 years and all this time I was thinking the same as you do. I used to be on IG a lot to engage with my friends but slowly realized it doesn't add any value to me, my friends are not interested in what product i'm working on blabla.
This year I decide to put my focus on Twitter, Here are some benefits I get from Twitter personally:
Give it a try, and come join me @jamalx31
Thanks for the reply, you make some good points. I like your "IG for sexy minds" comparison, that does sound cool.
I think I'll give it more time then. I'll keep using it and try to find those people. I gave you a follow too.
It has multiple conversation topics taking place there and if/when I’m not working on no-code in the future, I’ll still have an audience, many of whom may be interested in my new thing.
Yeah I see the appeal of building an audience through it for sure. I just want to enjoy using it too.
I've seen a few interesting threads so far but a lot of spam too. I'll keep using it and try to find those interesting conversations 👍
Yeah the key here then would be cutting out spammy followers. Like for me, I only follow no-code and tech people so most of the convos are relevant.

Haha I definitely get where you're coming from. I thought since so many business founders rave about Twitter I thought I'd give it a go.
I like blogging, but Twitter will take some getting used to.
