Best way to explain is through an example. Let's say your product is an AI logo generator. In order for a user to generate logos, they would need to expend 10 credits. In order for a user to obtain credits, they would need to purchase a bundle of 50 credits for $5. Once they've generated 5 icons, they would need to purchase another bundle of 50 credits, thus repeating the cycle.

Why does this matter to me?

Because cash is king and the best way to secure that cash is by requiring your users to pay up front first for how much they will be using. Credit based billing allows you to do just that since it requires your users to have to pay upfront first for credits in order to use your product.
