Why the future for work is NOT work from home

You make some valid points. To be honest, I think the answer is "it depends" on the person an the company.
I believe there are people who thrive in the secluded work from home environment; based both on their personalities and the nature of their work. I personally do not like working from home fully (which I have done) for a number of the reasons you list.
I also do not want EVER want to fully go back to working at the office. In my current role, I am work from home, however, I do have the opportunity to venture out to visit customers, go to meetings and attend training or conferences. I personally try to leave my house at least once a week, at the same time I avoid being gone every day.
I am hoping from this pandemic a large number of the "traditional 9-5, office 5 days a week" companies learn the value of work from home. I feel it instills a level of trust, promotes a better work-life balance and even a degree of increased focus (also based on the person).

It's likely to be a mix. Companies will measure performance, and see what works for them.
Plus a lot of jobs simply do not require ideas bouncing as mentioned in the article. A lot of jobs are just that - "Dont think too much, just do your job. Sadly"
I fully agree with this, the article makes some very interesting and valid points, but at the end of the day, the thing that determines how a person reacts to working remotely is the person himself/herself.
I guess there are a lot of questions here to be answered by the employer and employees. Will many organizations stop working from home and start working in offices again as soon as it is possible? Yes. Will, there still be a significant increase in the number of organizations working remotely as a result of knowing its benefits? Also Yes.
The fact that there has been such an increase in the number of freelancers over the years gives a clear indication that more and more people are being driven towards working remotely and independently.
Eventually, it all depends on the nature and personality of the individual. Myself, for example, feel that working remotely has allowed me to be even more productive while being able to dedicate much more time towards other important stuff.
