One thing I kept noticing while building Focido: productivity apps are really good at organizing goals. They are not very good at helping people follow through on them.
The gap is almost always social.
We dug into the research on this. Behavioral studies on Gen Z and motivation showed that humans outperform AI on the levers that actually change behavior: reciprocity, guilt, expectation, trust. Not because AI is bad. Because accountability only really works when someone can notice when you disappear.
So Focido's core loop is built around human motivators. Real people who pick up tasks, send a nudge at the right moment, and get rated on quality of motivation, not just on positivity.
What surprised us most: the users who completed tasks were not the ones who felt inspired. They were the ones who felt expected.
We are early. If you are building anything around accountability, habit formation, or behavior change, I would genuinely love to swap notes. What has worked for your retention?
