Why We Decided to Try Product Hunt Again After a Disappointing Launch

Hi Everyone,

Today we decided to launch Typogram again on Product Hunt.

Even with enough upvotes, it may or may not be featured on the homepage. (*Update: We got on the homepage, and thanks to our supportive friends and community, we are currently fighting for No.1 Spot *)

You can support us here!

We all know Product Hunt is a little unstable. Even if you have many upvotes, products may not get featured. if you could support us on PH today, I'd really appreciate it.

In this post, I want to talk a bit about our past launches and discuss why we decided to launch again on PH.

Our Previous Launches

So far, we have launched Typogram twice on Product Hunt. For both launches, we mostly bet on the launch events themselves. The goal has always been to secure a top spot so we get a spike in our traffic and marketing, acquiring paid users for our app.

Here are some snapshots:

Pre-order "the chill " Launch, March 2022

This was our first launch for Typogram. We mainly prepared a few days before the launch by sharing snippets of our product and a teaser in our newsletter, Twitter, and Reddit. And promoted throughout the day. Our results:

  • 16 pre-orders
  • 1500 traffic during the first two weeks of launch
  • 10th Product of the Day

Alpha "the disappointment" Launch, April 2023

On April this year, we launched our alpha on Product Launch. This time, we took an intense period to prepare, contacting our community of friends and previous customers in advance to gather support, especially the first few hours of the launch, a lesson we learned from our pre-order launch.

Unfortunately, we were locked in the Product Hunt landing page jail for the initial vital hours. Though our product had enough upvotes to take the top 3 spots in the initial hours, Typogram only made it onto the homepage many hours later. Even though we felt like we were rubbed out of the top three spots, our community carried us through.

  • 100 new users on the launch day and 130 new sign-ups the following week
  • 9 converted to paid user, 4% conversion
  • No. 6 Product of the Day (later mysteriously changed to #5 way after launch - my theory: another product had votes revoked due to bots)

I know the numbers I'm showing are not super large or impressive. However, to us small indies bootstrappers without much of an audience, there are not many places we can get traffic like this.

This marketing buzz is still vital to getting that first batch of users, free or paid. Though the platform is unstable, it is still worth the weeks of marketing and content creation and is one of the best platforms.

and finally, us today.

Our Current Launche

V2 "story to be told" Launch, December 2023

We adjusted our strategy this time for our launch, trying to widen our reach before the launch. If you want to know the details, you can read more about our new launch plan. I'll share more about what we learned from this launch soon. Meanwhile:

We are currently on PH. We'd appreciate any support today:
