Unfortunately Assemblymade.com/assembly.com is not live anymore.
You can probably see their homepage here: https://web.archive.org/web/20150320203143/https://assembly.com/
Assemblymade was a place for makers to work on open projects.
Basically you had an idea, post it there, then every project would have App coins (similar to a DAO), let's say a 1000 coints.
Now to build the project you would create tasks saying I need a landing page and you would offer like 10 coins for that. Then I need a design for the mobile app 50 coins.
And people with their skills could do stuff for any project and earn different app coins.
Then Project X makes some revenue and that would be shared to the coin owners.
This works when the whole project it is totally open, we have seen that is a model that works. Plausible.com for example is open source code but has a good ARR ($1M).
I think that project failed because was a bit ahead of its time. But I for me was one of the best projects I have seen.
How many times I've seen good projects here and wished I could help out because I really like it. Sometimes you see a good project and then 24 "clones" because that project is doing good (anyone said customer feedback?)
If we could join forces and have open companies/projects would be fun.
Does anyone remember it? Would it make sense to build something similar?
