💪Why WorkoutOS - Combining workout tracking and data analytics for training and motivation

I built this app as a way to combine two of my passions programming and fitness. I have always done a lot of exercise, either with sports, going for a run, or hitting the gym. Sadly, as I grow older, it becomes more difficult to remember how my shape was at a certain point or what my peak looked like. This is a bit frustrating.

I have considered many times to use an app to track and monitor my training, but never found one that really clicked. I did not want to invest too much time recording workouts that I had already finished, and the idea of writing it down or having a spreadsheet made it feel like homework rather than something fun and motivating.

Throughout my career I had programmed tons of code for scientific programming, but had barely invested enough time in web development. So I decided to start a new side project that allowed me expanding my horizons while working on something I am passionate about, fitness and numbers.

This little learning project kept evolving and I started using it more and more. Eventually, I realized that some of the features were not only interesting from a statistical point of view but they were also motivating me to workout more and with higher frequency, challenging my past-self.

This moment made me realize that the app could be useful for many that are really into tracking their training, but also for those that need an extra push to be more systematic with their workouts. So I decided to make the app more professional and open it to the world.

And that's how WorkoutOS was born.

PD: I am actively maintaining the app, so feedback is highly appreciated.
