Why would a founder pay for someone else to write about their product?
I've been thinking about this a lot with Your Tech Compass because if all I'm offering is another article about your company, there's not much reason to pay me for it.
You can just write that article yourself or hire a freelancer and publish it on your own blog, but the value is in who is doing the talking.
When YTC covers your product independently, you get something your own blog can’t give you: an outside assessment that a potential customer can read before they ever talk to you, that your sales team can send to a prospect, that you can use around a product launch, and that can introduce your company to people who weren’t already looking for you.
And if the piece is good enough, it's something that keeps people coming back to the company after the launch is over. That's why I'm becoming much more interested in independent coverage than in generic sponsored content.
The company pays for the research and editorial work. It doesn't pay for a positive conclusion. At YTC, that can mean a hands-on product review, a competitive comparison, a technical deep dive, or an investigation into a particular market/product question.
If you’re building something in AI, SaaS, or tech and want independent coverage, DM me. I’m taking on a few commissioned reviews and deep-dive features for YTC.
