Great breakdown — totally agree that zero-volume keywords are massively underrated.

One angle I’ve found especially valuable: mining Reddit and Quora. These platforms surface questions real people ask, often before they hit mainstream keyword tools. And when those threads start ranking on page 1 (especially Reddit results), that’s a signal: Google’s showing forums because there’s no strong content answering that question elsewhere.

    Here’s what we look for:

Questions asked repeatedly in different variations (“Does oat milk cause acne?” is a great example)

Threads ranking high in SERPs — often positions 2–5

Weak or absent content from brands trying to compete

Once we spot these, we group clusters of low-volume variations to get a clearer picture of real demand. When you target the cluster, not just the term, you hit intent in a way most competitors miss.

Tools like Ahrefs can help surface Reddit keywords at scale — just filter for Reddit URLs ranking in top positions with low keyword difficulty and low search volume.

Most people chase high-volume terms. But the magic? It’s buried in the forgotten questions your customers are already asking.
