Will you be my beta user?

Hi!

I'm glad you're here.

My friend and I worked for almost a year on a new product. We've built the tool that lets you watch what people do on your website (or web application). It can be really helpful during product development.

Last week we threw our jobs away and started work full time on this project. It's freaking exciting and scary at the same time. Now, there's only one more thing to be happy - knowing that our product is used by real users (not GoogleBot). I'm searching for people willing to spend their time using my product as beta users.

Will you be my beta user? If the response is positive, here is my product https://livesession.io

If no, please explain why. It'll be ultra helpful

All the best,
P.B.

Hey, this is awesome! I'll setup your product to my product site when I start my next campaign.

A question about the ethics though (perhaps GDPR-y related too?): What is the best way to tell my users that I'm recording them using my website? Should I ask consent?

    Your website says that:

You should provide at least one [opt-out] option on your website and include information on how to do it in your privacy policy.

So opt out is the way to go?

Are you respecting the browser's "do not track" feature (available as header and js API) as opt out signal?

    1. 1

We're working on making our product fully GDPR compliant. At this moment we don't track text inputs and IP, to be sure that everything is safe.

You can write something like that on your website.

We use LiveSession to understand our users’ needs. LiveSession helps us understand how users interact with our website (e.g., how much time they spend on which pages, what users do, what makes them frustrated, etc.). It uses cookies to collect data on our users’ behavior and their devices (device screen size, device type, browser information, country). LiveSession stores this information in an anonymized user profile.

Then create JS method that runs __ls("optOut") on link click. And add copy with that link.

You can opt-out to the creation of a user profile in LiveSession by following this opt-out link.

We don't respect DNT header yet. But we'll implement this soon @jehna.

    Hi @Bitsky,

Looks great. I will sign up sometime soon. I was just curious what your differentiator from Hotjar is?

    1. 1

      Hi Colin. Great question!

      (wait for the pitch...)

With our tool, you can set recording conditions based on users interactions (not only page location). We index all events so you can easily search sessions by filters. For example, find every session where people clicked on “Signup for free” button on indiehackers.com. What’s more, you can send custom parameters like email or name using our JS SDK.

      (end of the pitch.)

@Colin sign up today. Don't wait for tomorrow. Life is to short

    Hey @Bitsky

Congrats on making the jump to doing your own product. You've done a great job so far.

Based on my work experience, I have an idea of how this might be useful for companies and testers. This might be crazy and different from what you've built but I guess it worth a consideration.

Very often companies offshore their manual testing and the issues written in Jira or Github might not be self-explanatory and it's hard for developers to understand the exact issue. The product could help testers record their manual testing session and whenever issues arise, they could add the video clip or mention the time in the video in their Github/Jira repos. The developers would be able to view the video and understand the issue correctly. This saves lots of communication time between the tester and the developer.

Another use case might be companies using the tool to see developer and design candidates do their interview task, the companies can understand the thinking and decision making process of the canddiates.

@Nakkeeran it's a pretty neat idea. Thanks for the suggestion. Let's dive into this use case. Could you be more specific about product features? What would we need to implement to be useful for product testers and their employers?

    2. 1

Browserstack does record videos of the test runs, but IIRC it was not straightforward to see them afterwards. Definitely a killer feature if you'd have it as one of the key features.

    Great Idea!
I was just checking the demo, and My screen is jumping down every time there is a click event (the focus goes to the right vertical slidebar with all the events listed). If you are using your own product, you should see it i guess.

Thanks, Aquiles! We'll fix this today. It's a bug caused by wrong overlay styles. I appreciate your feedback. Would you like to try our product? Have you signed up? :)

  5. 1

I will be happy to beta test. I signed up :)

    1. 1

Thank you, Stanislav :)! I'll reach you out ASAP

I'm about to launch a new test product in the next week, I usually use Hotjar for recordings but would love to support a fellow IndieHacker and try out your product and give feedback.

I've put my email in your request form.

Thanks, Kyle! I would love to test your product as well. What're you building?

I'm working on a crypto trading journal. Something that would be of interest/use to you?

        1. 1

I don't invest in crypto. Sorry mate! But I'll keep my fingers crossed for your product :)

Truly amazing, some times I wish the website developer could see me struggling with some non working feature. I am not working on web at the time, otherwise I would be betatesting for sure.

Happy to beta test. I have a SaaS product that I'm about to release in beta and a tool to help me track their activity would be great.

    1. 1

Sounds great, Dave. Have you signed up for the beta? :)

Firstly, congratulations on taking a major step towards a life changing decision.

Would love to spend sometime in evaluating the product.

Thanks, Junaid :) Have you signed up? I would love to get your feedback

    Your product looks really amazing!

I'd have loved to help you out, however I unfortunately do not have a use case for this (no meaningful traffic ;D), so I won't be able to generate useful feedback.

Best of luck for your project!

    1. 1

Thank you, Omar. I think that it can be useful even for a website with small traffic. It's not like A/B testing, where you need to have big traffic to get real results. So let me know if you change your mind. Cheers! :D

Thank you for your kind invitation.

I'm totally interested. I'll definitely give it a spin soon if it's still welcome by then :-)

        1. 1

Of course. We'll wait for you :). Reach me out via email or on live chat, when you'll be ready

          1. 2

            Thanks a lot @Bitsky :-)

I hope your project is doing great by the way! To more users 🍻
