WindowKeys 3.0 is here — native macOS window tiling with more flexibility

WindowKeys started as a simple way to assign custom keyboard shortcuts to macOS native window tiling — especially useful if you’re using a third-party keyboard where default macOS shortcuts don’t work.

Over time, it evolved into more than just shortcuts. Many users wanted an easier way to access tiling without remembering key combinations. That’s why I introduced the Tiling Panel — a simple window showing all tiling commands in one place.

With version 3.0, WindowKeys adds several new features:

  • Move windows between displays (or iPad)

  • Repeat last tiling action for each app

  • Redesigned Shortcut Editor with categories

  • New Bottom Bar in Tiling Panel for quick reference and shortcut editing

The app remains completely free and requires macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later.

Nice work, especially the move between displays feature — that's a handy one. Tiling's great for getting windows into position but I kept running into a different problem: I'd get everything arranged perfectly across my monitors, then unplug my laptop and it all goes to chaos. Plugging back in, nothing goes back where it was.

I built Layoutish to solve that side of things. Rather than tiling, it saves your entire window arrangement and auto-deploys it when it recognises your monitor setup. So you plug into your desk and everything just lands where it should — right apps, right positions, right screens. Works well alongside tiling tools actually, use something like WindowKeys to get things positioned, then save that as a layout in Layoutish so you never have to set it up again.
