When building a SaaS Product, how important is it to make users set and use passwords, when they can skip that entirely and just use magic links?
I think it's about preference.
I much rather use a password from my password manager than having to open my mail inbox and wait for a mail with a magic link to arrive. It simply goes much faster.
I agree - having to go to my email is a pet peeve - no, it's not killing me but it sure is annoying! For instance, I cry a little whenever I have to use Slacks.
I prefer social authentication as I just have to click through a couple of things and type NOTHING! Feels good. 😅
It's fine to leave it out until users ask for it. But the risk is some users may be stuck due to email delivery issues, which I ran into before.
if your users have tech background it's less of an issue.
handling password: forgot password, reset password, etc take so much dev time.
Not a direct answer, but I hadn't heard of Magic Links before, so I had to look it up and looking at their site, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable using that, personally.
Well I suggest you make option require a password or not, similar to adobe XD share option
