"Wordoid, a fast-paced spelling game! Play for free in your browser." - Any feedback? 😄

Try the beta of Wordoid here (it's browser based so should work on desktop, iOS and Android): https://wordoid.seanw.org/

I took a break from more serious products to work on a game. 😄 I'm just looking for feedback on if it's fun right now while I iterate. Any comments appreciated such as:

  • Did you find it fun? Would you play it again later or recommend it to a friend?

  • Was it too difficult? Too easy?

  • Did you find the controls and rules simple to figure out?

  • Did you notice any bugs?

Thanks!

The controls took a second since I opened it on a computer - so I thought I was supposed to click on the letters. But then I figured I would have to 'swipe' by clicking and holding..

It wasn't so fun for me personally - mostly cause I realized I wasn't so good xD So probably wouldn't share with a friend.

    Didn't notice any bugs.

Sorry about the brutally honest feedback, but I hope it gives something!

Oh and maybe some music/ticking clock/ shorter time limit would help create the sense of 'fast-paced'

Thanks, brutal feedback is good. :) Yep, the tag line needs to be iterated on and music would help.

When you said you weren't very good at it: I could add hints and tweak the random letters in a way that makes it easier to spell long words but would that really help you enjoy it more? Do you like spelling games in general?

So I'm getting some people playing it for literally hours and others give up in minutes because they can't find anything over a few 3 letter words - not sure how much of it is to do with the game mechanics and how much of it is that some people love spelling games and some hate them.

Thank you for being open to feedback :)
Ah, let's see... I have played some of these games on my phone and I guess I did somewhat enjoy them? But it might have to do with the fact that on a phone it feels a bit more relaxed/ enjoyable (normally I do 'work' on my computer), with a phone there's a lot more mobility, not as much pressure to do well.. can tilt the phone around..
I would probably still not play it for hours though. but at least five-ten minutes, like while commuting or something..
So, unfortunately, for me personally it's the fact that it's on a browser that cuts a bit of the 'enjoyment'... I guess the difficult of the game wasn't the biggest issue. But that's just one view and there could be others who enjoy it.
For me a browser-based game for fun (during breaks) could be like spot the differences, something to encourage standing, drawing, coloring.. also something that uses the widescreen of the computer (and thus I would probably not have used my phone for it)
Btw, great questions (very specific) to understand the issue + use of examples (that helped me see where I was and what I look for in a game)! (That's something I am taking with me from this conversation)

Hey! I have still been thinking about your product...
I think what I would prefer is for the game to utilize/adjust itself to the size of my screen. So I don't need to focus only on this narrow bar in the centre by can let eyes wander around the whole screen... Otherwise it is a bit stressful for the eyes. So yeah stretching the game for the screen would be my recommendation.
It would also then make it a bit more different than similar games for phones.. :)
